A pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar aspectos/elementos da cosmologia de Aristóteles a partir da filosofia da ciência de Larry Laudan. A tentativa é apresentar neste artigo uma interpretação possível sobre como o processo evolutivo da cosmologia da época sob o enfoque da filosofia de Laudan, baseado nas tradições de pesquisa, teorias específicas, modelo reticulado, progresso científico, metodologia, axiologia, etc. Abordaremos sobre a questão da aceitação das teorias específicas, a questão da eficácia na resolução de problemas, entre outras questões importantes para a interpretação mencionada. O recorte histórico será importante enquanto elemento que permitiria visualizar esta interpretação filosófica e sobre como seria possível pensar em um modelo de reticulação neste contexto, na tentativa de apresentar os tensionamentos entre os componentes da tradição de pesquisa, como forma de destacar a necessidade de revisão constante destes elementos historicamente, dentro do processo evolutivo das tradições de pesquisa. Utilizaremos como base especialmente as obras O progresso e seus problemas: rumo a uma teoria do crescimento científico (2011) [1977] e Science and Values (1984).
Esta pesquisa procura investigar o conceito de metáfora raiz na concepção de Stephen C. Pepper a partir de sua obra World Hypotheses (1942) e artigos relacionados. Além disso, extrapolar o conceito de metáfora raiz a partir de uma possível interlocução com o trabalho filosófico do conhecimento científico de George Lakoff e Mark Johnson, particularmente em Metaphors we live by (1980) e artigos relacionados. Considerando estes objetivos, foi abordado sobre o conceito de metáfora em Stephen C. Pepper e em George Lakoff e Mark Johson procurando observar como ocorre o processo de formação do conhecimento científico a partir destas visões filosóficas que podem ser consideradas relacionadas.
Resumo: Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo resgatar e analisar as concepções de Herbert Feigl e de Percy Bridgman em relação a forma como são definidos os conceitos das teorias das ciências da natureza. O texto de base da pesquisa é o artigo de Feigl de 1970 intitulado The 'orthodox' view of theories: remarks in defense as well as critique onde nele são feitas defesas e também críticas importantes à concepção ortodoxa da ciência do início do século XX. Além deste, analisamos duas importantes obras de Bridgman, a saber, The Nature of Physical Theories (1936), publicada nove anos após a primeira obra de Bridgman de 1927, e A physicist's second reaction to Mengenlehre (1934). No artigo de Feigl é feita uma defesa da existência de conceitos primitivos nas teorias e de que eles são definidos apenas parcialmente pelo conjunto de axiomas a que ele pertence. Esta é uma defesa da independência da experiência de alguns conceitos teóricos, ou seja, independência da necessidade de verificação empírica para a determinação do significado deles. Com efeito, há um questionamento de Feigl em relação à possibilidade de definição operacional de todos os conceitos teóricos. Apresentaremos uma análise desta crítica e também um questionamento a ela. Será necessário também, para nossa exposição, abordar a questão dos fundamentos das teorias das ciências da natureza, uma questão muito pertinente na época aos físicos, filósofos, etc., em particular, sobre quais problemas as teorias das ciências da natureza enfrentavam neste período, para entender os principais desafios da época em relação à consistência de estruturas teóricas e na construção de uma explicação filosófica também consistente sobre o desenvolvimento teórico.
