Neurofeedback Aphasia Rehabilitation Słowa kluczowe: udar neurofeedback afazja rehabilitacja a b s t r a c t Background: New developments and trends in neurophysiology are presented from the point of view of diagnostics and the new technology available. Based on their own experiences and the literature available, the authors have analyzed neurofeedback, a new rehabilitation method which combines elements of psycho-and neurophysiotherapy. Objective: To explore the usefulness of neurofeedback therapy for stroke patients. The progress of a female patient with Broca's aphasia receiving therapy is analyzed, in which neurofeedback was used alongside more traditional rehabilitation methods. Methods: The report describes the case of a 53-year-old woman following a hemorrhagic stroke in the left hemisphere, with a past myocardial infarction, hypertension and 40-year-long history of cigarette smoking. A number of tests were used to assess the patient's neurological and neuropsychological functioning. Results: An increase in the proportion of b waves in the left hemisphere of the brain and an increase in the amplitude of the SMR in the right hemisphere. D and t waves decreased in both amplitude and percentage in the two hemispheres. Also, a reduction in the t/b to t/SMR ration was observed. In comparative tests positive results obtained in terms of: concentration, visual perception, categorizing, as well as the regulation of affect and reduction in the aphasia symptoms. Conclusions: Previous studies suggest that neurofeedback leads to lasting symptom reduction. This needs to be confirmed with tests on larger samples using standardized assessment procedures.
Wprowadzenie i cel pracy. Badania nad jakością życia młodych osób dorosłych są istotne z punktu widzenia zdrowia publicznego. Podjęto próbę zbadania zadowolenia z życia obecnych studentów, którzy zostali wychowani w świecie najnowszych technologii, nieograniczonego dostępu do informacji, a często ograniczonych wymagań. Porównano poziom wskaźników jakości życia wśród osób będących studentami trzech polskich uczelni. Materiał i metoda. Do oceny globalnego poczucia satysfakcji życiowej wykorzystano Skalę Satysfakcji z Życia (SWLS). Badanie przeprowadzono w 2013 roku podczas sesji egzaminacyjnej, wśród 238 uczestników studiów dziennych Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Olsztynie, Olsztyńskiej Szkoły Wyższej oraz Politechniki Gdańskiej. Wyniki i wnioski.
SummaryBackgroundNeuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) are rare neoplasms that originate from neuroendocrine cells and are characterized by the potential of hormonal activity. Approximately 70% of these tumours are located in the gastrointestinal system (GI), followed by the bronchi, endocrine glands-like C cells of the thyroid (medullary carcinoma), the parasympathetic and sympathetic system (paragangliomas, pheochromocytoma) and other very rare locations. The prevalence of cerebral metastases in neuroendocrine tumours is estimated by various authors to be approximately 1.5–5%. When the primary tumour is located in the pancreas, it is associated with a risk of cerebral metastases lower than 2%.Case ReportWe describe a patient with a disseminated pancreatic NEN that presented with an isolated lesion in the brain. We gathered the important data via medical history,, observation, analysis of medical records, imaging and others diagnostic tests. Despite the fairly rare prevalence of cerebral metastases in NENs, a neurological work-up should be performed. This should include neuroimaging of the brain, preferably with MR, together with the somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS), in each clinically suspicious case.A histopathological examination of the CNS tumour can confirm a dedifferentiation of NEN in the direction of a neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC – neuroednocrine carcinoma) with a poor prognosis.ConclusionsCerebral metastases are diagnosed in 1.5–5% of patients with a neuroendocrine neoplasm. In each case suggestive of a dissemination into the central nervous system, MRI of the brain should be performed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
