Metal halide perovskites are attracting great attention as next-generation light emitting materials due to their excellent emission properties with narrowband emission. [1][2][3][4] However, perovskite light-emitting didoes (PeLEDs) irrespective of their material types (polycrystals or nanocrystals) have not realized high luminance, high efficiency and long lifetime simultaneously, as they are influenced by the intrinsic limitations related to the trade-off properties between charge transport and confinement in each type of perovskite materials. [5][6][7][8] Here, we report an ultra-bright, efficient, and stable PeLEDs made of core/shell perovskite nanocrystals with a size of ~10 nm obtained using simple in-situ reaction of benzylphosphonic acid (BPA) additive with 3D polycrystalline perovskite films without separate synthesis process. During the reaction, large 3D crystals are split into nanocrystals and the BPA surrounds the nanocrystals, achieving strong carrier confinement. The BPA shell passivates the undercoordinated lead atoms by forming covalent bonds, and thereby greatly reduces trap density while maintaining good charge-transport properties of 3D perovskites. We demonstrate simultaneously efficient, bright, and stable PeLEDs that have maximum brightness of ~470,000 cd m -2 , maximum external quantum efficiency of 28.9 % (average = 25.2 ± 1.6 % over 40 devices), maximum current efficiency of 151 cd A -1 , and half-lifetime of 520 h at 1,000 cd m -2 (estimated half-lifetime >30,000 h at 100 cd m -2 ). Our work sheds great light on the possibility that PeLEDs can be commercialized in the future display industry.
Background Data comparing outcomes in heart failure ( HF ) across Asia are limited. We examined regional variation in mortality among patients with HF enrolled in the ASIAN ‐HF (Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure) registry with separate analyses for those with reduced ejection fraction ( EF ; <40%) versus preserved EF (≥50%). Methods and Results The ASIAN ‐ HF registry is a prospective longitudinal study. Participants with symptomatic HF were recruited from 46 secondary care centers in 3 Asian regions: South Asia (India), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore), and Northeast Asia (South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China). Overall, 6480 patients aged >18 years with symptomatic HF were recruited (mean age: 61.6±13.3 years; 27% women; 81% with HF and reduced r EF ). The primary outcome was 1‐year all‐cause mortality. Striking regional variations in baseline characteristics and outcomes were observed. Regardless of HF type, Southeast Asians had the highest burden of comorbidities, particularly diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease, despite being younger than Northeast Asian participants. One‐year, crude, all‐cause mortality for the whole population was 9.6%, higher in patients with HF and reduced EF (10.6%) than in those with HF and preserved EF (5.4%). One‐year, all‐cause mortality was significantly higher in Southeast Asian patients (13.0%), compared with South Asian (7.5%) and Northeast Asian patients (7.4%; P <0.001). Well‐known predictors of death accounted for only 44.2% of the variation in risk of mortality. Conclusions This first multinational prospective study shows that the outcomes in Asian patients with both HF and reduced or preserved EF are poor overall and worst in Southeast Asian patients. Region‐specific risk factors and gaps in guideline‐directed therapy should be addressed to potentially improve outcomes. Clinical Trial Registration URL : https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ . N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2) has been studied for its inhibitory effects against growth and metastasis of many tumor cell types. In this study, we showed NDRG2 expression was correlated with favorable recurrence-free survival of patients with breast cancer and inhibited metastasis of breast cancer cells (4T1). NDRG2 expression was examined in 189 breast carcinoma tissues and paired normal breast tissues using immunohistochemistry. Histological and clinicopathological data were correlated using Pearson's chi-square test of independence. NDRG2 expression in human breast cancer tissues was inversely associated with lymph node metastasis and pTNM stage. Furthermore, patients with breast cancer with a high level of NDRG2 expression showed favorable recurrence-free survival (P = 0.038). To study the effect of NDRG2 on metastasis in vivo, we established an NDRG2-overexpressing mouse breast cancer cell line (4T1-NDRG2) and measured the metastasis and survival of 4T1-NDRG2 tumor-bearing mice. To test whether transforming growth factor β (TGF-β)- mediated metastasis of 4T1 was inhibited by NDRG2 expression, TGF-Smad-binding element (SBE)-luciferase activity and/or measurement of active TGF-β were performed in cell or tumor tissue level. 4T1-NDRG2 cells grew gradually and showed less metastatic activity in vivo and low invasiveness in vitro. 4T1-NDRG2 cells showed lower SBE-luciferase activity and lower level of active autocrine TGF-β than 4T1-Mock did. Correctly, our data show that NDRG2 significantly suppress tumor metastasis by attenuating active autocrine TGF-β production, and the attenuation might be typically associated with the favorable recurrence-free survival of patients clinically.
Objectives Endoscopic prelacrimal medial maxillectomy (EPMM) was previously reported to treat maxillary inverted papilloma. This study aimed to compare prelacrimal recess approach with the conventional Caldwell-Luc approach (CLA) to remove benign maxillary sinus tumors and to evaluate the usefulness of this approach based on our experience. Methods Ten patients who underwent EPMM at our hospital from January 2013 to December 2017 were reviewed. We also reviewed 30 patients who underwent benign maxillary sinus tumor resection via CLA during the same period. From medical records, postoperative pathological results, complications due to surgery, and recurrence rate were evaluated. Results There were eight inverted papilloma, one ameloblastoma, and one ossifying fibroma in the EPMM group. In the CLA group, all 30 cases were inverted papilloma. There were no cases of failure at gross total removal during surgery, and no recurrences were observed during follow-up in either groups. Mean follow-up period was 13.0 months in CLA group and 10.8 months in EPMM group. Regarding postoperative complications, 11 patients of the CLA group (37%) and three patients of the EPMM group (30%) had numbness around the cheek and upper lip area after surgery ( P =0.715). In the CLA group, there were eight patients who had numbness lasting more than 3 months after surgery, and two patients had numbness for more than 1 year. However, facial numbness disappeared within 3 months in all patients in the EPMM group, in which epiphora was not observed. Conclusion EPMM is the effective surgical approach for resecting benign maxillary sinus tumor compared with CLA. Although facial numbness was reported in EPMM, the duration of numbness was shorter than CLA.
