Unusual histological appearances of the gingival tissue of a father and three daughters with familial gingival fibromatosis are described. The gingival lesions of all the patients were similar and showed a marked fibroblastic activity, with scattered small calcified particles and irregular trabeculae of bone, and ulceration and inflammation of the overlying epithelium. The appearances resembled those of the common non‐familial fibrous epulis and contrasted strikingly with the dense, mature, relatively acellular bundles of collagen more usually encountered in familial gingival fibromatosis.
