Los traductores automáticos pueden ser un recurso de fácil acceso en la actualidad debido a la inmediatez con la que ofrece una traducción. Sin embargo, por la complejidad que conlleva la equivalencia de significados entre dos lenguas, esta herramienta tecnológica puede producir errores gramaticales, léxicos o socioculturales porque se requiere de la comprensión y la creatividad humana para trasladar conceptos desde una lengua a otra. Respecto a la traducción especializada, específicamente la traducción técnica, es normal que sucedan más dificultades al realizar traducciones de forma automática, pues se necesita el dominio de terminología muy concreta. Por ello, en este artículo se presentan los resultados de una investigación realizada con los alumnos de la carrera Licenciado en Idiomas de la Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco que estudian el campo de Traducción e Interpretación, así como profesores de la carrera. Para esto, se elaboró un cuestionario cualitativo y una entrevista con el fin de encontrar información desde dos perspectivas distintas acerca de la implementación de los traductores automáticos durante el ejercicio de traducción técnica italiano-español. Los resultados indicaron que tanto estudiantes como docentes hacen un uso adecuado de la traducción automática y no la consideran como una solución fácil para resolver la labor traductora.
