In Zeiten konjunktu-reller Schwäche üben immer mehr Menschen Kaufzurückhaltung. Erzwingen nun knappe Kassen, was über einen Wertewandel nicht erreichbar ist? Die aktuelle Entwicklung lässt eher Gegenteiliges befürchten.
Kulturwissenschaftliche Konsumforschung befand sich lange Zeit im Schatten einer Kulturkritik, die Konsumenten eher als verführt und passiv denn als kreativ und erfinderisch verstand. Tatsächlich umfasst der Umgang mit käuflichen Dingen jedoch eigensinnige Praktiken, etwa das Kuratieren und Kombinieren von Produkten und deren umgestaltende Aneignung - sei es in subversiver, personalisierender oder künstlerischer Absicht. Darüber hinaus treten Verbraucher zunehmend bereits bei der Produktgestaltung ko-kreativ in Erscheinung. Die Beiträge des Bandes widmen sich diesen kreativen Aspekten des Konsums und werden von einem Gespräch mit dem Bildhauer Thomas Rentmeister über dessen künstlerischen Umgang mit Konsummaterialien ergänzt.
