Duodenal duplications are rare congenital anomalies which can present with pancreatitis. A precise preoperative diagnosis is rarely possible. We present a 12-year-old girl with relapsing pancreatitis in whom the diagnostic survey was initially inconclusive. Two years later abdominal ultrasound revealed a cyst near the head of pancreas. At laparotomy a cysto-duodenostomy was performed. The histology of the cyst wall was diagnostic.
Introduction: In order to write MCQs students need to use high order thinking skills. In a question generating process as a learning exercise students are required to process, organize, integrate and reconstruct knowledge which improves meta cognitive development and encourages higher order thinking. The current study has been conducted in Jorhat medical college, Department of Physiology. 125 students of rstMethod: year MBBS were instructed to write twenty multiple choice questions on respiratory system after conducting a pretest based on same topic. The MCQs were analyzed by expert faculties and some best quality questions were picked up from them and one post test was conducted using those MCQs. The individual score of the students in both pretest and posttest were compared statistically. In addition feedback from the students about their experience was collected by distributing a questionnaire. The performance of the students in the posttest was better than the pretest.Result: Majority of students found the task helpful as it helped them in deeper learning of the content. The better performance in posttest andConclusion: the feedback obtained from the participant students has reected that this type of educational variations can be introduced in the learning process of the healthcare education.
INTRODUCTIONGoal of our work was to establish the data of normal nerve conduction velocity (NCV) for the median and the ulnar nerves in normal healthy adults in Barpeta town area, Assam, India. METHODSNerve conduction studies were performed prospectively in the upper limbs of 100 carefully screened, healthy individuals of either sex, who were between the ages of 20 and 60 years, by using a standardized technique. RESULTS: MOTOR STUDIESThe median distal latency (DL) in men was 3.48 (0.26) ms, the amplitude (CMAPA) was 9.86 (1.92) mV, the conduction velocity (MNCV) was 55.94 (2.94) m/s and the F-wave (min latency) was 26.86 (2.12) minute. In the ulnar nerve, the motor DL was 2.3 (0.26) ms, the amplitude (CMAPA) was 9.97 (3.90) mV, MNCV was 62.97 (3.90) m/s and the F-Wave (min latency) was 25.98±2.41. In the sensory studies, the median nerve DL was 1.89 (0.25) ms, SNCV was 53.14±3.80 m/s and the amplitude (SNAPA) was 42.69 (20.48) μV for was. For the ulnar nerve the DL was 1.89 (0.36) ms, SNCV was 56.86 (6.23) m/s and the amplitude (SNAPA) was 40.92 (168.4) μV. CONCLUSIONThe normative conduction parameters of the commonly tested nerves in the upper limb were established in research laboratory of physiology department of our institute. The mean motor nerve conduction parameters for the median and the ulnar nerves correlated favorably with the existing literature data. However, for the sensory nerves, a higher value for the nerve action potential amplitude was demonstrated in this study.
INTRODUCTION After menopause abnormal lipid levels and a relatively high incidence of coronary heart disease show a possible relationship among estrogens, normal lipid level and a relative immunity to CHD. A reduction of plasma HDL cholesterol may impair the normal clearance of cholesterol from arterial wall and thereby accelerate the development of atherosclerosis. In the study two groups of women were selected, one group of 100 cases between age group of 20-45 years and the other group of 100 cases between the age group of beyond 45 years who attained menopause. A total of 200 cases taken from various body mass index and various personal habits like smoking and alcohol consumption, food habits, etc. The investigation carried out was Total serum cholesterol, serum high density lipoproteins (HDL), Triglyceride, serum low density lipoproteins (LDL) and serum very low density lipoproteins (VLDL). These investigations were done in both the groups and collected data were analyzed statistically. The mean distribution of this parameter of lipid profile among the pre-menopausal subject is as follows-Total serum cholesterol-165.1±13.06mg%, HDL-57.35±8.05mg% TG-87.71±13.51mg%, LDL-9192±19.47mg% and VLDL-17.55±2.83mg%. The distribution of different parameters of lipid profile among the postmenopausal subjects are as follows-Total serum cholesterol 238.39±41.60mg%, HDL C-37.91±5.35mg% TG-149.61±33.15mg%, LDL-170.95±40.90, mg% VLDL-29.99±6.42mg%. On comparing both values of both the age group it was seen that total serum cholesterol, were increased in postmenopausal women significantly and there was a significant decrease in HDL C in post-menopausal state. In conclusion the study reflects menopause does have an unhealthy effect on serum cholesterol in women.
