Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) recently emerged from Wuhan, Hubei province, China in December 2019. It showed devastating nature and already involved almost all the territories all over the world. It is a contagious disease and rapid, reliable diagnosis is needed to take measure for decreasing the infection rate. For detection of COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab, sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, saliva and other body fluid identified as useful samples. The aim of this review from recent studies is to explore the possibility of salivary analysis to identify COVID-19. Although nasopharyngeal swab is taken for rRT-PCR test as a worldwide accepted method, but it is a technique sensitive procedure needs expert personnel and adequate protection is necessary to avoid contamination. In the contrary, saliva sample can be taken easily by the patient himself at home which is a low-risk procedure and economical. So, in the pandemic of COVID-19, salivary analysis could be a good option for detection. Future study on this might explore the possible diagnostic capability of saliva for different diseases and underlying mechanism to find out the pathway for targeted drug therapies.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 05 No. 01 January’21 Page: 7-11
Oral cancer is one of the six leading cancers in the world and is a constant threat to the health sector in developing countries as well as developed ones. Late presentation, due to lack of awareness and invasive incisional biopsy is the crucial factor for this. Nowadays, scientists are trying to find out an easy and reliable method of early diagnosis of oral cancer and molecular biomarkers might be very helpful for that. This review was aimed to evaluate the published literature on molecular biomarkers which are related to oral cancer. For this, advanced searching was applied by specific keywords in PubMed-Medline resource database and found 12466 publications were clinical trials on humans. Then after applying all inclusion criteria, 19 articles were included finally in the review. This paper uncovered that recognition of biomarkers will be useful for the early detection of oral cancer and their prognosis after treatment. We can suggest that p53, EGFR, miR-34a, miR-143 estimation is important to decide the conceivable risk of oral malignant growth advancement in the speculated oral lesion and after the curative procedure EGFR, Podoplanin and miR-21can aid us regarding the prognosis of patient.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 06 No. 01 January’22 Page: 11-16
Globulomaxillary cyst found in between the roots of lateral incisor and canine of maxilla and is a non-odontogenic developmental origin. It is usually diagnosed by routine radiographic examination and it is inverted peer shaped radiolucent lesion. Adjacent teeth remain vital. Complete enucleation or marsupialization is a treatment option for this. This case report is to observe the expected results after marsupialization followed by enucleation. An eighteen years old boy noticed a painless swelling for 1 year at the left side of upper lip and we performed surgery enucleation after doing marsupialization. Here, marsupialization done to promote bone regeneration and to avoid injury to vital structures and possible fracture. Patient was followed for 3 months after enucleation and the radiolucent area was gradually reduced.This article reports the management of a globulomaxillary cyst in at two-stage procedure and it was more conservative. It might be a good treatment option for management of globulomaxillary cyst. Update Dent. Coll. j: 2020; 10 (1): 25-27
Background: Panoramic view of radiograph or Orthopantomogram (OPG) is useful in the aspect of surgery done in mandible, as many visible landmarks can be found in a single tomographic image. Objectives: To evaluate the visibility of anatomical structures of mandible in OPG and to determine the relationship of age and gender with this. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional study and was conducted in dental OPD of Noakhali General Hospital from January 2019 to June 2019, six-month period. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 20. Results: A Total of 272 OPGs were examined of patients (female 165, male107), having age range of 7-90 years. Here highest visible structure was mandibular canal (about 97.4%) followed by mental foramen and mandibular foramen, where visibility was 92.3% and 87.5% respectively. Anterior loop of mental nerve and incisive canal were seen in 33.5% and 31.6% cases respectively. Only in 15.1% OPG, lingual foramen was visible. There is no significant relationship between gender and visibility of structures (p>0.05). Age and visibility of landmarks showed significant relation only in case of mental foramen and mandibular canal (p<0.05). Conclusion: Panoramic view or orthopantomogram is very efficient to detect many anatomic points in adults. KYAMC Journal Vol. 11, No.-3, October 2020, Page 133-136
