This study describes the concepts, historical precedents, language and fundamental experiences of artivism. It shows the research activities from two main universities (Complutense de Madrid in Spain and Nottingham Trent in UK) as well as other cultural institutions (Élan Interculturel from France and Artemiszio from Hungary), which have explored the educational potential of artivism as a new way of achieving social engagement using innovation and artistic creation. The paper defines precisely artivism as a new language which appears outside the museums and art academies, moving towards urban and social spaces. Artivism is a hybrid form of art and activism which has a semantic mechanism to use art as a means towards change and social transformation. The analysis collects some central experiences of the artivist phenomenon and applies semantic analysis, archiving artivist experiences, and using urban walks and situational research, analyses the educational and formative potential of artivists and their ability to break the classroom walls, and to remove the traditional roles of creator and receptor, student and professor, through workshop experiences. Finally, it reflects upon the usefulness of artivism as a new social language and an educational tool that breaks the traditional roles of social communication.

[EN] Introduction: This R&D project is based on the hypothesis that female scientists are invisible in the Spanish media. Objectives and methods: To test this hypothesis and to examine the image of female scientists offered by the Spanish press, this study analyses the science news disseminated by the five major general-interest paid-for newspapers during six non-consecutive months. Conclusions:The results reveal that these newspapers only dedicate 2.6% of their pages to science news and that only 14.3% of these news stories focus on female scientists, while the great majority of news, 70.7%, focuses on male scientists and the rest, 15%, have both male and female scientists as protagonists. Science news stories that focus on female scientists describe the research studies of these women in a dispassionate manner, without giving them a protagonist role, and without using evaluative adjectives to describe them. Thus, there is a significant level of inequality in the informative treatment given to male and female scientists in the Spanish press.
Immigration emerges as a relevant topic in the analysis of media coverage. This case of study identifies that the media coverage adopted a more predominantly political frame rather than a social or human frame. Also, there were significant differences between the presence of migrant and non-migrant news sources, while non-migrant speakers were not judgmental regarding migration. Likewise, news framing influences the selection of news coverage. The political frame over-represented the political actors and international institutions and under-represented migrants. Nevertheless, when it comes to the human-interest angle, migrants are the most common sources. Our results contribute to the literature regarding the description of the issue of immigration focused on the information sources.
