Aim: This study was carried out with the help of metaphors in order to determine the perceptions of the concept of "nurse" among children aged 7-17 years. Methods: A phenomenological method was used in this qualitative research study. The data were collected using a personal data form that contained a metaphoric sentence to complete ("A nurse is like... because..."), which aims to determine the children's perception of a nurse. The data were analyzed by content analysis. Results: The study comprised 19 children, of whom 68.5% were male, 73.6% were 7-12 years old, 26.4% were 13-17 years old, and 58% were hospitalized because of chronic diseases. Elicited metaphors for the concept of "nurse" were grouped into a total of four categories: three main categories were primary care, participation in the implementation of the medical diagnosis/treatment plan, and health protection and one mixed category in which the primary care and participation in the implementation of the medical diagnosis/treatment plan were combined. Conclusion: It is determined that children had mainly positive metaphors for the concept of "nurse." The healthcare and health protection roles of the nurse were perceived as positive. In addition, positive and negative metaphors for the role of participation in the implementation of the medical diagnosis and treatment plan of the nurse have been elicited.
