The aim of the study is to evaluate the mathematical modeling activities of 4th-grade students within the framework of the experiential learning theory. One of the reasons for considering modeling and experiential learning together is that mathematical modeling activities consist of real life problems and allow students to learn experientially. The research conducted as a qualitative case study and whole process fulfilled online. 13 fourth grade students determined with the appropriate sampling method. Modeling activity story, modeling evaluation rubric, observation form and semi-structured interview forms were used as data collection tools. During the implementation process, the students were shown a digital story created by the researchers and the problem situation was embedded in the story. The story about a virus facing humanity asked to the students to find a solution of the problem. In the context of this story, the students carried out a mathematical modeling activities about perimeter and area. At the end of the implementation process, a semi-structured interview form was used to get students' opinions about the activity. As a result, students have achieved on mathematical and mental modeling while they made low score on mathematical results which subject area.
This study aimed to investigate refugee pupils' schooling contexts, their social relationships with teachers and native peers in math, social studies, and native language courses at primary schools. The research is a combination of two parts that originated from the observations in Italy to highlight the refugees’ schooling contexts in classrooms, then followed by the part that took place in Turkey in order to make comparisons and address the bullets to learn from each other to make improvements. The data were collected within the frame of a descriptive phenomenological research design. Results were analyzed in general and in terms of the aforementioned courses and determined the refugees’ and teachers’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats known as SWOT. One of the notable results showed that respecting justice and equality, and peer support were the common strengths in Turkey and Italy. There were further results concerning focusing on the differences and familiarities between these two hotspots.
graphing about data processing were used. The analysis of the obtained data was analyzed using the content analysis method, which is the most commonly used method among qualitative data analysis methods. According to the findings obtained in the research, the classroom teachers and candidates emphasized the meanings of proving, proving the truth and revealing with concrete evidence; It has been determined that they associate the purpose of proving with increasing confidence in information and confirming meaningfulness. It has been observed that being understandable, consistent, objective, and free from contradictions are the most frequently stated expressions among the features of the proof. According to the findings regarding proof schemes, it was seen that teachers and pre-service teachers mostly had experimental proof schemes. In the light of these results, researchers are recommended to conduct research involving pupils, primary teachers and teacher candidates for the development of primary school level mathematic education.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
