Die Untersuchungen wurden an Stahlblech (Feinstblech mit 0,07 C aus unberuhigt vergossenem Vormaterial) und Reinstzinn in einer dem galvanischen Element entsprechen den Meßzelle durchgeführt. Begleitende Lagerversuche wurden in blanken (unlackierten) und lackierten Dosen gemacht. Als Elektrolyt wurde Zitratpuffer pH 2,4 verwendet. Sauerstoff bewirkt auf dem Stahlblech Lochfraß. Die damit verbundene Korrosionsaktivierung bleibt auch dann bestehen, wnn bei der Lagerung von Konservendosen der Sauerstoff nach einiger Zeit verbraucht ist. Gleichzeitig aber wird die Stahloberfläche durch in Lösung gehende Zinnionen, die bevorzugt an den loch fraßefäche absorbiert werden, vor Lochfraß und der damit verbundenen Korrosionsaktivierung geschützt. Dieser Schutz tritt aber nur in Füllgütern auf, in denen das Stahlblech ein elektropositiveres Potential aber nur in Füllgützt. Die Frage nach der Zweckmäßigkeit des sauerstofffreien Abfüllens von Konservendosen kann also nicht pauschal, sondern muß im Einzelfall unter Berücksichtigung der beschriebenen Zusammenhänge beantwortet werden.
