Digitnnol Glycosides, XXII'). On the Genin of a Digitenol Glycoside from Marsdenio tingolensis N. E. Br. *)From dried leaves and stalks of the Asclepiadaceae Mursdenia angolensis a diacylated digitenol glycoside has been isolated. Acid hydrolysis results in the diacyl genin 1. Its structure has been elucidated mainly by means of spectroscopic methods. The product, obtained by reaction of 1 with alkali, has been found to be 3P,SP,11 cr,l2P,14P-pentahydroxy-l7PH-5pregnen-20-one (4). 4 is identical with marsdenin already found3) in Cortex condurango Rehb. f . Both the genuine glycoside and the diacyl genin 1 are derivatives of pregnene with I7aH-configurat1on, esterified with two moles of P-hydroxyisovaleric acid. During acid hydrolysis of the glycoside, water has been eliminated from the hydroxy carbonic acid groups, yielding the cc,P-unsaturated pentenaic acids. During alkaline saponification almost complete isomerisation occurs at (2-17.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
