Las mucopolisacaridosis (MPS) son enfermedades de depósito lisosomal, caracterizadas por la deficiencia en las enzimas lisosomales encargadas de la degradación de los glucosaminoglicanos (GAG), esto lleva a su acumulación y al inicio de una serie de procesos patológicos característicos de esta enfermedad. La detección e inicio de tratamiento temprano, son importantes para evitar el deterioro en la calidad de vida del paciente. La medición de GAG en biofluidos es el biomarcador universal en estas patologías, sin embargo, el procesamiento y análisis de los resultados de laboratorio pueden llegar a ser de difícil interpretación y varían según cada paciente, por lo que contar con nuevos biomarcadores tendría un impacto en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de estas enfermedades, con lo cual se podría garantizar un mecanismo de aseguramiento en salud adecuado para estas enfermedades.
