El tiempo de concentración es un parámetro esencial para el uso de los modelos lluvia-escorrentía que obtienen el gasto máximo de escurrimiento en un punto de una cuenca. Existen a nivel mundial diversas fórmulas empíricas para su estimación, pero no hay una regla general para elegir la adecuada. En este trabajo se compararon fórmulas utilizadas en el cálculo de este parámetro a partir de la cuenca urbana del río Bélico en la ciudad de Santa Clara con punto de cierre en la Circunvalación Norte de la ciudad. Se realizó un balance de los resultados obtenidos y se emitieron criterios acerca de las ventajas y desventajas de los métodos descritos. Se propuso un umbral de los valores máximos y mínimos de cada una de las fórmulas empíricas utilizadas, lo que permitirá futuras consideraciones en los proyectos de rectificación de cauces urbanos y su drenaje pluvial urbano asociado.
