ChemInform Abstract Although hydroxamic acids have been used for many years in colorimetric analyses of vanadium, the full characterization of the complexes formed has not been accomplished. The V(V) dihydroxamate complexes (IV) and (VIII) are synthesized as shown in the scheme and characterized by IR and UV/VIS data. Their structures are confirmed by X-ray analysis of (IVa) (space group P21/c, Z=2) and (VIII) ( P21/n, Z=4). The 1:1 molar reaction of VOSO4 in water or VO(acac)2 in MeOH with rhodotorulic acid H2L yields the oxovanadium(IV) rhodotorulate hydrate with the formulation (IX) (yield 32/40%). On the 1:2 molar reaction of VOSO4 and H2L in water, the tris(hydroxymato)-V(IV) complex (X) is formed resulting from the highly unusual dissociation of the vanadyl V=O bond.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
