Objectives Clinical education and experience in the clinical environment play an important role in shaping the clinical experience. Effective clinical teaching improves the clinical practice of the nursing trainees which in turn improves the quality of patient care. It mandates for the clinical instructor with desired qualities, to have a positive influence in clinical education. This study examined nurse trainees’ perceptions of clinical instructor characteristics. Methods The current study was conducted in a multi-cultural tertiary setting using a cross-sectional descriptive design. Using convenience sampling, 302 trainees were chosen as participants for the study, and there were 296 respondents. The data were collected from the participants using the Nursing Clinical Teacher Effectiveness Inventory (NCTEI) tool. Results The findings of the study revealed that the clinical instructors have scored high in personality (scoring percentage = 84.0%) and relatively low in teaching ability (scoring percentage = 81.3%). Also, the overall perception was almost the same among all the trainees though there was a slight variation in their rating of each dimension. Conclusions Nursing trainees indicated the instructors as having good personality and relatively low teaching ability. This mandates the clinical instructors in the clinical environment to empower themselves in this area of improvement. This helps the teaching institutions to consider all the domains of effective clinical instructor characteristics while recruitment and also organize programs giving emphasis on building and developing these characteristics to create effective instructors.
Introduction Resistance to antibiotics is a threat confronting health care system worldwide. Nurses play a significant role in combating this threat. Objectives The present study examined the knowledge and attitude of nurses towards antibiotic use and prevention of antibiotic resistance. Methods The research involved a cross-sectional study conducted in a multi-cultural tertiary healthcare setting. The participants were 341 nurses. A structured self-administered questionnaire with a good validity and reliability (α = 0.7) was used. Results The nurses surveyed showed moderate awareness of antibiotic resistance and a fair attitude towards its prevention. There was no significant correlation of demographic features with their overall knowledge and attitude ( p > 0.05). Conclusions Nurses perform a crucial part in infection control, but often lack knowledge of methods to prevent antibiotic resistance. This paucity highlights the importance of tailored interventions to help nurses improve their awareness of antibiotic resistance and create a favorable attitude towards its prevention.
BackgroundThe utilization of modern communication technology in the healthcare field is known as telemedicine, and it represents an advancement in the healthcare industry. For effective implementation of these technologies, healthcare professionals must possess the appropriate knowledge and hold a positive perspective toward the implementation of telemedicine. The current study aims to evaluate the knowledge and perspective of healthcare professionals in King Fahad Medical City, Saudi Arabia toward telemedicine.MethodsThis study was carried out in a diverse hospital, King Fahad Medical City, Saudi Arabia and it was a cross-sectional study. The study took place from June 2019 until February 2020, during which 370 healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals participated. The data was gathered by using a structured self-administered questionnaire.ResultsThe analysis of the data revealed that the majority of the healthcare professionals who participated in the study, 237 (63.7%), had limited knowledge of telemedicine. About 41 (11%) participants had a good understanding of the technology, and 94 participants (25.3%) had extensive knowledge. The overall attitude of the participants toward telemedicine was positive, with a mean score of 3.26. The mean attitude scores varied significantly (P < 0.001) among the different professions, with physicians scoring 3.69, allied healthcare professionals scoring 3.31, and nurses scoring 3.07. The coefficient of determination (R2) was used to evaluate the variation in attitude toward telemedicine and it was found that education (12.4%) and nationality (4.7%) had the least impact on the attitude toward telemedicine.ConclusionHealthcare professionals are crucial to the successful implementation and continuity of telemedicine. However, despite their positive attitude toward telemedicine, most of the healthcare professionals who participated in the study had limited knowledge of it. There were differences in attitude among different groups of healthcare professionals. As a result, it is necessary to create specialized educational programs for healthcare professionals to guarantee the proper implementation and continuation of telemedicine.
Background: Many nurses perceive that the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) reduces the workload, improves the quality of documentation, and improves safety and patient care. However, other nurses reported that the system and environment of healthcare might impede EMR documentation at the bedside. Objective: The study aimed to describe the nurses' views of the use, quality, and satisfaction with EMR in daily practice in outpatient settings. Furthermore, the relationships among the use, quality, and user’s satisfaction of EMR were assessed in the study. Methods: The proposed study employed a cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design. Inclusion criteria were nurses willing to participate in the study, fluent in the English language, and have been working in the Outpatient Department for more than three months until the time of study implementation. A self-reported questionnaire with strong validity and reliability was used to assess nurses’ views of use, quality and satisfaction of EMR. Results: The response rate was 77.2% (170 out of 220), 91.2% of the participants were females. Results about the use of EMR have shown positive views ranging from 51.2% to 84.7%, with the lowest scores reported when to write nurse care worksheets (Kardex). For the quality of EMR, the results have shown positive views ranging from 70% to 87.6% with the lowest scores reported related to the EMR system problems and crashes, and for the user’s satisfaction, the results have shown positive views ranging from 76.5% to 87.1%. There were significant positive correlations between the three elements use, quality, and user’s satisfaction of EMR. Conclusion: Participants reported positive views in the domain of use, quality, and satisfaction with EMR. Furthermore, positive correlations were reported between the use, quality, and satisfaction domains of EMR.
