La energía eólica se ha convertido en una de las energías renovables de mayor crecimiento en la última década. En Colombia, aunque la entrada de la energía eólica ha tenido que enfrentar ciertas barreras, el Gobierno busca incentivar el desarrollo de esta fuente. En este trabajo se desarrolla una metodología para identificar y evaluar zonas con potencial eólico en Colombia. Se establecen criterios ambientales, técnicos y económicos con los que se crean mapas de zonas restringidas y evaluadas. El método de Proceso de Análisis Jerárquico (AHP) es implementado para calcular la importancia relativa de cada criterio de evaluación, para ello se tiene en cuenta la opinión de expertos en campos relacionados con la energía eólica. Finalmente, se propone un índice de factibilidad de las zonas para el desarrollo de la energía eólica. La metodología propuesta se aplica en el departamento de La Guajira. Los resultados muestran que existe un porcentaje importante del área total del departamento disponible para el desarrollo de proyectos de energía eólica.
