-In biometric systems, reference threshold is defined as a value that can decide the authenticity of a person. Authenticity means whether the person is genuine or intruder. The statistical calculation of various values like reference threshold, FAR (False Acceptance Rate), FRR (False Rejection Rate) are required for realtime automated biometric authentication system because the measurement of biometric features are statistical values. In this paper, the need of reference threshold, how reference threshold value is calculated is explained mathematically. Various factors on which reference threshold value depends are discussed. It is also explained that how selection of correct value of reference threshold plays an important role in authentication system. Experimental results describe the selection of reference threshold value for palmprint biometric system.
Biometric authentication has been emerged as a reliable means to control a person's access to physical and virtual places. Despite the various efforts made on biometrics, accuracy of the authentication/identification is the main concern and it has to be completely investigated. The paper presents critical analysis of the matching score values in such a manner that system accuracy is increased. Min Max Threshold Range (MMTR) technique is proposed that provides two levels of authentication and increase in accuracy is observed. The methodology of increase in accuracy is observed on various feature extraction methods.
In today's world, communication, the sharing of information, and money transactions are all possible to conduct via the Internet, but it is important that it these things are done by the actual person. It is possible via several means that an intruder can access user information. As such, several precautionary measures have to be taken to avoid such instances. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the idea of a one-time password (OTP), which makes unauthorized access difficult for unauthorized users. A OTP can be implemented using smart cards, time-based tokens, and short message service, but hardware based methodologies require maintenance costs and can be misplaced Therefore, the quick response code technique and personal assurance message has been added along with the OTP authentication.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
