Sabang City is the western boundary of Indonesia and is known as zero kilometer of Indonesia. Zero Km Monument Indonesia is geographical marker and tourist destination in Sabang City. However, landscape of this monument still has problems, such as less up to date monument, dirty and messy surroundings, deck is less secure, there are disturbance of wild monkeys, and lack of existing facilities. Furthermore, as tsunami affected area, local community demonstrated signs of emotional distress and depressive symptoms. This condition can affect human behaviour in utilizing outdoor space and needs to be considered for further development. The objectives of this study include (1) identifying, analyzing, creating synthesis potentials and constraints and (2) creating concept and redesigning landscape of 0 Km Monument Indonesia. The method used in this study is descriptive and spatial analysis method with field observation, questionnaire, interviews, and literature studies. The main concept of this study is to create a tourist destination that can be used as healing spot in Sabang City. This design concept is bungong jeumpa, a natural element that support healing concept and an iconic symbol that represents to Aceh. It is implemented to design pattern, decoration, and plant. The final result of this research is limited to landscape redesign with the final product that consists of site plan, planting plan, section, and 3D impression.
Open space is a part of the community's needs for leisure. Open space can have many forms and functions. One of them is the traffic island and street median. Traffic Island and street median has potential as a media of display to form character and give a mental map for an area. Character of a region can be shaped with elements inside, one of these with the placement of the artwork. Artwork can be a an element mental map to guide a person to move from one point to other, especially in big cities such as Jakarta. The Medan Merdeka road is surrounded by traffic islands, up to now still not have character and appeal to form a mental map of its users. This study aims to create the artwork design can shape the character and attitudes docket in the Medan Merdeka Area. This activity is carried out on the grounds of The Medan Merdeka region in 16 weeks with the method of direct observation and interviews. The Output from this research includes the design artwork on the traffic Island to has function as a mental map in the area.
The condition of a school landscape is important because it affects the learning process which can increase participation among students. Nature school is one form of an educational institution that takes account the importance of a landscape and how the students can appreciate the environment. One nature school is in Bogor, more specifically at Tanah Baru. This nature school has an inclusive education program for children with special needs, in which they can interact with other children of the same age. The aim of this research is to create a concept and design of the school landscape and playgrounds that can function as an educational and healing space through programs and activities that stimulate growth and development of children with environmental qualities and esthetics. The method that was used for this research was analyzing qualitative and quantitative aspects through three approaches that are biophysics, social, and education of special needs children. This method was done through four stages which are: (1) preparation stage, (2) research and analyzing the existing conditions (physical and biophysical) and educational process for special needs children through direct observation and literature review, (3) data processing stage, and (4) designing stage. The main concept of this school landscape is to create an educational and interactive landscape which can be used for therapeutic activities by combining the existing therapeutic activities. The main concept of this landscape comes from the concept “building blocks for learning” which consists of skills obtained from therapeutic activities. The design concept, “building blocks of life”, is a development from the main concept which can be interpreted as the compositional structure of all living things, in which cells are the lowest structural level of living things, as well as elementary school in the educational system. The output of this research is limited to the landscape design phase, with the final product in the form of a site plan and other supporting detail drawings.
