The study was conducted in the month of June 2019. The city was divided into four directions east, west, north, and south and four clinics were selected from each directions randomly. A close-ended questionnaire was prepared consists of demographic details and questions regarding their perception, awareness, and practice to maintain periodontal health from the start of orthodontic treatment. Results:Majority of study participants {74 (55.22%)} were between the age group of 11 and 15 years. There was moderate awareness, negative perception, and fair practice of majority of study participants seeking orthodontic treatment toward maintenance of periodontal health. Awareness of study participants was significantly (P-value ≤ 0.05*) associated with practice. Conclusion:There was moderate awareness, negative perception, and fair practice of majority of study participants seeking orthodontic treatment toward maintenance of periodontal health. Education of study participants was significantly associated with awareness and practice regarding maintenance of periodontal health. There is further need to educate the orthodontic patients toward maintenance of periodontal health.
The aim of this study is to report a rare case of pregnancy in uterus didelphys. Mullerian duct anomalies are congenital defects of the female genital system that arise from abnormal embryological development of the Mullerian ducts. A didelphys uterus, also known as double uterus is one of the least common amongst the various Mullerian duct anomalies. It results from complete failure of fusion of Mullerian ducts. There is presence of double uterine bodies with two separate cervices and often double or septate vagina. We report the case in our institute of a pregnancy in the left sided body of a didelphys uterus, delivered by caesarean section. Patients with uterus didelphys belong to high risk group and complications are increased in malformed uterus. Such cases need a meticulous prenatal care. It is a rare Mullerian anomaly and can present with varied obstetrical and gynaecological complications. Prompt and accurate diagnosis of uterine malformations and appropriate surgical intervention are essential to prevent complications.
Background:
In addition to an adjusting physical appearance, children with cleft lip and palate also deal with psychological and psychosocial limitation. Mothers' sense of coherence (SOC) could be a psychosocial determinant of oral health quality of life (OH-QoL) of cleft lip and palate patients. Hence, the present study was done to assess the relationship of mothers' SOC on OH-QoL in cleft lip and palate patients.
Materials and Methods:
The present cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted on mothers of cleft lip and palate children. The first part consisted of demographic details. The second part of scale was the early childhood and oral health impact scale (ECOHIS) which had a total 13 questions with responses on a 4-point Likert scale. The third part was to assess mothers' SOC using a short version of SOC-13 consists of 13 items on a 7-point Likert scale. Chi-square test was applied to assess the association between mothers' SOC, sociodemographic characteristic, and children's OHRQoL. In the analysis,
P
< 0.05 was considered significant.
Results:
Out of 69% of low SOC population, 21.73% were rural, 20.39% were from peri-urban, and 57.97% population was from urban areas. Out of 150 participants, 2.40% in high ECOHIS were illiterate/primary school, “31.32% were high school/intermediate/diploma had high ECOHIS while 66.26% were high school/intermediate/diploma” had low ECOHIS, and 25.37% were graduate/postgraduate. Mothers' education and locality were statistically significant
P
< 0.001.
Conclusion:
Action to enhance mothers' SOC might form part of oral health promotion and help to improve the oral health quality of life of cleft lip and palate patients.
