Humor is a form of communication that tend to create amusement and trigger laughter. Research has proven that humor is beneficial for physical health, psychological wellbeing and social interaction. As a communication tool, humor benefits both the sender and receiver. It reduces anxiety, creates positive atmospheres, and breaks down barriers. In the classroom teaching context, humor can be used as one of the instructional tools which help students to engage in the teaching and learning process, especially in teaching English. There is no doubt that learning a foreign language can be very toilsome as it involves many processes. Students have to struggle with language anxiety such as apprehension, selfdoubt, and frustration which eventually leads to stress and boredom. Therefore, teachers should consider the students' mental state when delivering the material by choosing the appropriate form of classroom instruction. This study aims to investigate students' perception of using humor as one of classroom instructional models in teaching English as a Foreign Language. It was conducted to 60 students of English Education Department, at Musamus University of Merauke. The result indicates that the use of humor in teaching English may have positive impacts as it creates a more relaxing environment for the students; and in addition, it also helps the students to have better retention of the material being taught.
This study was on pragmatics, specifically deixis. This study aims to analyze the three main types of deixis: person deixis, time deixis, and place deixis; and to determine the most dominant deixis in the movie entitled Raya and The Last Dragon. The source of the data was the movie script of Raya and The Last Dragon. The data were obtained utilizing documentary techniques. There are 42 scenes in the movie script, and all of them have been studied. Based on the analysis, type of person deixis was used 677 times, including the first, second, and third person. 10 occurrences of spatial/place deixis were found. In addition, the type of temporal/time deixis was used 37 times. The results indicated that person deixis was the most dominant type of deixis in Raya and The Last Dragon's movie script..
This research aims to identify the dominating deixis among the many types of deixis in Jeremy Zucker's songs "You Were Good to Me" and "Comethru." Deixis is derived from the classical Greek phrase "to exhibit, to point out." Deixis is the study of interpreting the relationship of a situation with words, phrases, and elements expressed in a sentence. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach. According to the research, 58 words in the song "You Were Good to Me" feature various types of deixis, and 54 words in the song "Comethru." Person deixis points to objects, all pronouns, and possessives. Spatial deixis is used to indicate a location, whereas Temporal deixis is used to indicate a time.
