Resumo: Se a escravidão que se abateu sobre o povo negro africano foi abolida há mais de cem anos no Brasil, seus grilhões permanecem presentes no racismo, na desigualdade e nas invisibilidades sociais. O samba, principal referência identitária brasileira, é secularmente renegado da historiografia oficial pela sua origem afrodescendente. Este artigo aborda o papel social do Museu do Samba frente a esses desafios. Nele se analisa a constituição dos seus acervos, como parte da patrimonialização e do direito à memória do samba. A atuação do programa educativo no entorno constitui também parte desse estudo. Numa perspectiva de partilha de territórios, trata-se de atividades educacionais dialógicas e socialmente responsáveis. Por fim, abordamos os conceitos de ágora e fórum aplicados à instituição museológica através das ações de advocacy, junto a uma de suas principais comunidades de interesse: os sambistas.
