RESUMO -A adsorção tem sido utilizada com êxito no tratamento de efluentes têxteis, por ser uma operação ambientalmente e economicamente viável, especialmente quando são utilizados adsorventes de baixo custo. Um potencial adsorvente para a remoção de corantes é a quitosana, no entanto, a quitosana é normalmente utilizada na forma de pó, o que dificulta a separação de fases após a adsorção. Uma alternativa para este problema é o uso de quitosana na forma de filmes. O objetivo deste trabalho foi a aplicação de filmes de quitosana com diferentes características para a adsorção do corante Reativo Preto 5 (RB5). Foram produzidos 16 filmes, a partir de quitosanas com graus de desacetilação variando de 63,5 a 96,2%. Após, os filmes foram aplicados na adsorção do corante Reativo Preto 5 sob diferentes condições de pH (4,0, 6,0 e 8,0). Os resultados mostraram que o filme mais adequado para a adsorção do corante RB5 foi o produzido com a quitosana de mais elevado grau de desacetilação (96,2%), e, o pH 4,0 favoreceu o processo. Nestas condições foi obtido um percentual de remoção de 99,6±0,4% e uma capacidade de adsorção de 384,8±0,3 mg g -1 . INTRODUÇÃOAtualmente, existem mais de 10 mil tipos de corantes têxteis, sendo que mais de 700 mil toneladas são produzidas anualmente no mundo em escala industrial. Com relação ao Brasil, estima-se que cerca de 20 mil toneladas destes produtos são anualmente consumidas pelas indústrias deste setor (Dallago et al., 2005). Pelo menos 20 % desses corantes são perdidos durante o processamento, e tem como destino, os efluentes industriais.
