La ideación suicida son pensamientos recurrentes sobre cometer suicidio y la resiliencia es una característica de la personalidad que regula las consecuencias negativas del estrés. El objetivo del estudio consistió en determinar la relación entre resiliencia e ideación suicida. A través de un diseño no experimental, enfoque cuantitativo, alcance correlacional y corte transversal. La muestra se conformó por 100 estudiantes universitarios de la ciudad de Ambato, Ecuador, con edades entre 18 y 26 años con una media de 20 años (61% mujeres y 39% hombres) se seleccionaron por medio de un muestreo no probabilístico intencional, se empleó la adaptación peruana de la escala de resiliencia de Wagnild y Young y la adaptación mexicana de la escala de ideación suicida de Beck. Los resultados evidenciaron una correlación negativa entre resiliencia e ideación suicida (Rho= -0,252, p=0,012); en la evaluación de resiliencia prevalecen las puntuaciones altas; mientras que en la valoración de ideación suicida se encontraron puntajes bajos; asimismo se identificó que no existen diferencias significativas de resiliencia en función al sexo. Con los resultados se determinó mayor puntuación de resiliencia asociada con menor ideación suicida, por consiguiente, la resiliencia proporciona una mejor gestión sobre las emociones y disminuye los pensamientos suicidas.
