RESUMENLos bosques relictos montanos de vertiente occidental, en el norte del Perú, albergan una alta diversidad; no obstante, es limitado el conocimiento de la riqueza de estos ecosistemas. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la composición arbórea y estructura del Bosque de Protección Pagaibamba y su área de amortiguamiento, en el sector San Luis. Se aplicó una metodología que permitió instalar 12 unidades muestrales de 1000 m 2 , inventariar los árboles con diámetro a la altura del pecho (DAP) ≥ 5 cm, identificar las especies, géneros y familias; y se evaluó la estructura horizontal del bosque (con el Índice de Valor de Importancia y distribución de clases diamétricas) y la estructura vertical (con la Posición Sociológica Relativa que tienen las especies). Se inventarió 1291 árboles/ha, distribuidos en 31 familias, 44 géneros y 58 especies, siendo las familias más diversas Melastomataceae, Lauraceae y Compositae. Las especies con mayor índice de valor de importancia y mayor posición sociológica fueron Hedyosmum scabrum (Ruiz & Pav.) Solms, Cyathea caracasana (Klotzsch) Domin sp1 y Ocotea sp1.
La diversidad y estructura de los bosques miden los recursos y su abundancia en una zona geográfica, los bosques de Sapotaceae son importantes, por servir de alimento a la fauna que la habita. El estudio precisa conocer la diversidad y estructura de la familia Sapotaceae en el Sureste de la Amazonía peruana, Madre de Dios, Perú. El estudio se realizó en tres zonas: la boca del Río Los Amigos, el puesto de control Malinowski en la Reserva Nacional Tambopata y el Centro de Investigación Tambopata. Se evaluó la totalidad de especies de Sapotaceae, siguiendo como transecto la trayectoria de las trochas de las tres zonas de estudio. El género Pouteria presentó la mayor riqueza con tres especies (62,80 %) en las tres zonas de estudio. Seguido de Micropholis con dos especies (11,37 %) y los géneros Manilkara y Ecclinusa con una especie cada una (19,91%). Pouteria tiene mayor frecuencia en las zonas de estudio (34,89 %). Mientras que Micropholis guyanensis evidencia un alto potencial maderable (7,36 m3) sobre el resto de las especies.
