SUM M A RY This paper describes a systematic concurrent w ork¯ow management (W M ) process for integrated product development. W M consists of planning and scheduling teams' activities to support cooperative and concurrent works. This paper ® rst explains process re-engineering,¯owcharting and various work¯ow practices in concurrent engineering (C E) to come up with a general process for W M . The W M process is based on an information infrastructure containing m odels of product requirements, enterprise organization and resources, including the work¯ow activity. Finally, technologies supporting W M such as w ork process modeling, performance analyzing, process re-engineering strategies to redesign the process and activity managem entÐ real-time task' s monitoringÐ are introduced.
Computer-supported cooperative work has been the focus of attention in a concurrent engineering environment for some time. This paper studies this cooperative team environment from three perspectives: (a) the infrastructure of communication and information model viewpoint; (b) the planning and control of workflow viewpoint, and (c) some implementation viewpoints Implementation viewpoints in- dude constraints' management, negotiation, and memory capture and management. A set of enabling technology in each perspective area and its rationale are discussed. Finally, a structure of the whole system environment including definitions of an architecture and a global user interface are introduced.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
