Au cœur de grands projets de mise en valeur agricole, les terres du désert égyptien sont des ressources convoitées par une diversité d’acteurs qui se projettent sur ces espaces et cherchent à faire valoir leurs intérêts respectifs : produire et commercialiser des denrées agricoles bien sûr, mais aussi accroitre leur pouvoir ou légitimer leur position. Indissociable du processus de bonification de ces terres depuis la période nassérienne, le rôle des forces armées a été fortement réaffirmé dans les dernières années, avec l’arrivée au pouvoir du président Sissi et le projet de mise en valeur d’un million et demi de feddans. Cet article interroge la place de l’armée et ses intérêts – directs et indirects – dans la construction et l’essor d’une nouvelle frontière agricole en Égypte.
