Introducción: Las competencias son entendidas como una combinación integrada de conocimientos habilidades y actitudes conducentes a un desempeño adecuado y oportuno en diversos contextos del equipo de salud. Objetivo: realizar un análisis comparativo de las competencias propias y cruzadas del personal de enfermería en la atención de la madre y el recién nacido en los servicios de Neonatología y Obstetricia. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio de tipo observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal, retrospectivo. La muestra estuvo constituida por 65 enfermeros/as de una institución pública de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, de los cuales 34 pertenecían al servicio de Neonatología y 31 al servicio de Obstetricia. Resultados: Prevalece el sexo femenino con un 84,62%, el promedio de edad 45,09±9,94, y el 63,08% poseía el título de Licenciado en Enfermería. Se obtuvieron valores superiores en el servicio de obstetricia en las tres dimensiones; por otro lado existieron diferencias significativas entre las competencias propias y cruzadas tanto en el servicio de Neonatología y el de Obstetricia (competencias intra servicios); y por otro lado que no se encontraron diferencias entre los valores de las competencias propias y cruzadas entre servicios (competencias entre servicios). Se puede afirmar que el personal de enfermería del servicio de obstetricia posee en su conjunto competencias propias y cruzadas superiores a las del personal de neonatología. Conclusiones: En este estudio se encontró que el personal del área de Obstetricia posee de forma global mayor número de competencias en la atención materno-infantil respecto al de Neonatología.
