A pneumonia caracteriza-se, como uma infecção bacteriana aguda pulmonar, evidenciada por sinais e sintomas respiratórios. Já a pneumonia decorrente da ventilação mecânica é uma infecção característica entre pacientes submetidos a suporte ventilatório, geralmente em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI), e, as taxas de mortalidade resultante dessa infecção variam entre 20% e 70%, justificando a relevância da temática. Objetiva-se, descrever as principais imputações do enfermeiro e equipe em prevenção de pneumonia associada a ventilação mecânica. Materiais e métodos: Trata-se de uma pesquisa de revisão narrativa de cunho qualitativo, não sistemático, hipotético-dedutivo exploratório, realizando-se, as buscas de estudos nas bases: 'SCIELO; LILACS; BIREME; BVS', com publicações entre 2013 à 2018. Assim, o material composto consiste em 31 manuscritos, 19 artigos na discussão, e os principais foram evidenciados em um quadro, com o intuito de ressaltar os cuidados fundamentais realizados pela enfermagem, que podem prevenir as pneumonias associadas a ventilação. Evidenciaram-se, aspectos referentes aos cuidados de enfermagem; a higiene oral; das mãos; cuidados com aspiração das secreções; ciclo ventilatório; avaliação diária da probabilidade de extubação; prevenção da broncoaspiração; pressão do cuff; cabeceira supina e dieta enteral. Com o aprofundamento da temática elencou-se, as atribuições da enfermagem na prevenção de pneumonias associadas à ventilação mecânica e relacionando fatores de riscos atrelados a assistência ao paciente corroborando em educação permanente e estratégias/ações necessárias.
