As mídias sociais, antes focadas em entretenimento, tornaram-se um veículo de comunicação de alcance global e hoje são ocupadas por cientistas, professores e acadêmicos, possibilitando interações entre si e estreitamento as relações de ensino e aprendizagem. Em uma sociedade com informações tornando-se obsoletas em uma velocidade acelerada, quem produz conteúdo científico tem a necessidade de expor o seu trabalho para o público frequentemente. Esse fluxo de informação acaba favorecendo o público discente, que pode absorver esse conteúdo de forma inconsciente e passiva. No contexto da pandemia ocasionada pelo vírus da “COVID-19”, houve urgência de readequação das atividades cotidianas em todas as esferas sociais e a forma de ensino foi migrada para a modalidade remota, com grande influência das mídias sociais. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste estudo é investigar se a plataforma Instagram desempenhou um papel educativo em Zoologia para discentes (tanto do ensino básico quanto superior), como objeto de formação complementar informal, no período pandêmico de 2020. Para isso, foram selecionadas 10 páginas com enfoque em Biologia, e analisadas as 10 últimas publicações em Zoologia de 2020 quanto a seus conteúdos e engajamento. Os resultados mostram que a maior parte das publicações analisadas estão dispostas nas seguintes categorias: Nível Superior (nível da informação), Ensino (finalidade da publicação) e Miniaula (tipo de publicação). As análises apontam que, de fato, a mídia social Instagram atua como importante ferramenta complementar de ensino-aprendizagem em Zoologia.
