Zeolit alam asal Sukabumi memiliki tiga komposisi mineral, yaitu kuarsa, mordenit, dan klinoptilolit. Setiap jenis zeolit memiliki kegunaan yang berbeda-beda, untuk meningkatkan nilai lebih dari zeolit alam, maka dari itu perlu adanya pengembangan zeolit alam mengingat zeolit alam asal Sukabumi lebih cenderung kepada jenis zeolit mordenit. Dari permasalahan tersebut perlu adanya penelitian tentang studi transformasi zeolit alam asal Sukabumi untuk mengetahui jenis zeolit baru yang akan dihasilkan dari transformasi tersebut dan hasil karakterisasinya. Tansformasi zeolit alam dilakukan dalam tiga variasi komposisi perbandingan mol yaitu 1 zeolit : 4 NaOH: 40 air zamzam, 1 zeolit : 2 NaOH: 40 air zamzam, 1 zeolit : 0 NaOH: 40 air zamzam. Transformasi ini dilakukan dengan metode hidrotermal pada suhu 150°C selama 12 jam. Hasil transformasi perbandingan variasi mol tersebut menghasilkan zeolit faujasit, analsim, mordenit, dan mineral kuarsa. Karakterisasi dengan difraksi sinar-X yang mengkonfirmasi terbentuknya zeolit faujasit, analsim, mordenit, dan mineral kuarsa.
Air hujan merupakan sumber air permukaan dan air tanah. Air hujan terbentuk melalui beberapa proses yakni kondensasi, presipitasi, evaporasi, dan transpirasi. Air hujan memiliki kandungan besi dalam bentuk partikulat dan terlarutnya seperti ferro (Fe2+) dan ferri (Fe3+). Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menentukan kandungan Fe total, Fe(II) dan Fe(III) dalam air hujan serta perbandingannya dengan air hujan dari tiga tempat yang berbeda dan untuk mempelajari kandungan air hujan yang dapat mereduksi Fe(III). Fe total dianalisis dengan menggunakan instrumen Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA). Ion Fe(II) dan Fe(III) dianalisis dengan instrumen Spektrofotometer UV-Vis menggunakan ligan Fenantrolin dan KSCN sehingga membentuk senyawa kompleks [Fe(C12H8N2)3]2+ dan [Fe(SCN)6]3-. Derajat keasaman air hujan dianalisis menggunakan pH meter sedangkan keadaan oksidasi besi pada air hujan dianalisis menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis dengan pelarutan aqua dm dan air hujan yang turun di kawasan industri, pegunungan dan pemukiman. Hasil analisis menunjukkan kandungan Fe total, Fe(II) serta Fe(III) dalam air hujan yang turun sekitar industri, pegunungan dan pemukiman secara berturut-turut yaitu Fe total 0,5655; 1,6854; dan 2,4232 ppm, Fe(II) 0,0867; 0,2232 dan 0,0731 ppm, dan Fe(III) 0,5198; 0,4994 dan 0,5672 ppm. Dari perbandingan geseran panjang gelombang maksimum sinar tampak larutan FeSO4.7H2O teknis dan pro analisis dengan pengompleks fenantrolin diperoleh bahwa air hujan memiliki daya reduksi terhadap ion Fe3+.
Limbah bubut dengan kandungan logam berat dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan jika dibuang secara langsung ke lingkungan tanpa diolah kembali. Limbah tersebut merupakan bahan potensial yang dapat dimanfaatkan karena kandungan utamanya yang sebagian besar merupakan unsur besi. Sintesis pigmen merah digunakan metode presipitasi dengan menggunakan 4 suhu kalsinasi yang berbeda (500, 600, 700, dan 800°C). Karakterisasi hasil sintesis digunakan instrumen X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) dan Spektrofotometer Datacolor. Serbuk besi dari limbah bubut logam yang digunakan sebagai sampel mengandung unsur besi (Fe), hasil sintesis diperoleh empat pigmen merah besi(III) oksida dengan fasa hematit dengan rendemen 99,90% dan dengan intensitas warna merah yang berbeda pada setiap suhu kalsinasi yang digunakan. Serbuk besi limbah bubut logam dapat disintesis menjadi pigmen merah besi(III) oksida (hematit) dengan metode presipitasi dan pigmen merah dengan kalsinasi suhu 700°C memiliki intensitas warna merah yang dominan dari ke-3 suhu kalsinasi yang lain
