The development and world-wide spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria have a high concern in the medicine, especially the extended-spectrum of beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). There are currently very limited effective antibiotics to treat infections caused by MDR bacteria. Peat-soil is a unique environment in which bacteria have to compete each other to survive, for instance, by producing antimicrobial substances. This study aimed to isolate bacteria from peat soils from South Kalimantan Indonesia, which capable of inhibiting the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Isolates from peat soil were grown and identified phenotypically. The cell-free supernatant was obtained from broth culture by centrifugation and was tested by agar well-diffusion technique against non ESBL-producing E. coli ATCC 25922, ESBL-producing E. coli ATCC 35218, methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) ATCC 29,213 and MRSA ATCC 43300. Putative antimicrobial compounds were separated using SDS-PAGE electrophoresis and purified using electroelution method. Antimicrobial properties of the purified compounds were confirmed by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). In total 28 isolated colonies were recovered; three (25PS, 26PS, and 27PS) isolates produced proteins with strong antimicrobial activities against both reference strains. The substance of proteins from three isolates exerted strong antimicrobial activity against ESBL-producing E. coli ATCC 35,218 (MIC = 2,80 µg/mL (25PS), 3,76 µg/mL (26PS), and 2,41 µg/mL (27PS), and MRSA ATCC 43,300 (MIC = 4,20 µg/mL (25PS), 5,65 µg/mL (26PS), and 3,62 µg/mL (27PS), and also had the ability bactericidal properties against the reference strains. There were isolates from Indonesian peat which were potentials sources of new antimicrobials.
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract. This study aimed to prove Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves extract's effect on reducing the eosinophil count and mast cells in asthmatic mice. Twenty BALB/c mice that met the inclusion criteria were divided into four groups of standard control (K1), negative control (K2), dexamethasone (K3), and M. oleifera leaves extract (K4). On days 0 and 7, intraperitoneal ovalbumin (OVA) was sensitized. On days 14, 16, and 18, mice were re-sensitized by inhalation using 1% OVA in sterile 0.9% NaCl. On days 18 to 25, K1 and K2 groups were given Na-CMC, the K3 group was given dexamethasone 1.3 µg/day, and the K4 group was given M. oleifera leaves extract 3.9 mg/day. On the 25th day, the mice were terminated to analyze the eosinophil count and stable bronchiolar mast cells. In conclusion, M. oleifera leaves extract was proven to decrease the eosinophil count with a p-value <0.05 and could stabilize bronchiolar mast cells with a p-value <0.05.
Objective : To analyze the effect of DSME (Diabetes Self Management Education) on stress level of Diabetes Mellitus patient in area of Cempaka Public Health Center (Puskesmas) Banjarmasin. Method : This study used pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample used 15 people who live in area of Cempaka Public Health Center Banjarmasin. Data was analyzed using Wilcoxon test with a confidence level of 95%. Results : Result showed a difference stress level in Diabetes Mellitus patients before and after treated by DSME. Therefore it means that there was significant effect of DSME on stress in Diabetes Mellitus patients (p=0,001 < α 0,005). Conclusion : Self-management education affected to stress level of Diabetes Mellitus patients after treated four weeks.
Objective: To analyze the effect of smoking on Hemoglobin (Hb) level in the blood of active smokers at Health care center of East Banjarmasin. Technology or Method:This study used Cross-Sectional, with sample 60 people in Health care center area of eastern city of East Banjarmasin . Data analyzed using Chi Square test with a confidence level of 95%. Results: This study showed that there was a significant difference of hemoglobin level in active smokers with (p= 0.001 <α 0.005). Conclusion: Smoking will have a significant effect on the decrease of blood hemoglobin levels On active smokers.
Objective: To analyze Effectiveness Relaxation Techniques To Decrease Handheld Finger Pain Intensity Post Sectio Caesarea. Method: This research uses pre-group experimental method pre and post-test design. The population in this study was a post-cesarean section as many as 116 patients. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with a sample size of 30 people. Data collection uses questionnaires and standard operational procedures. The analysis was done with Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test (p = 0,05). Results: After 10 minutes of administration of relaxation techniquesof handheld fingers mostly with mild pain, most with a pain scale of 2 was felt by 11 respondents ( 36,7 % ) and a fraction with a pain scale of was felt by 1 person of 5 respondents ( 3,4 % ) and there is the effectiveness of relaxation techniques of handheld in order to reduce pain intensity post-cesarean section at the hospital of Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Banjarmasin with the result that the p-value < α (0,000 < 0,05), which is the result of Wilcoxon Signed Ranks. Conclusion: There is a handful effectiveness of relaxation techniques to decrease pain intensity post-cesarean section at Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Hospital, Banjarmasin.
