Neste trabalho, demonstra-se a aplicação dos métodos Convencional e de LID a uma micro-bacia, comprovando que através do planejamento urbano é possível criar paisagens hidrologicamente funcionais, com comportamento similar ao natural. A análise comparativa dos métodos de planejamento urbano foi realizada em uma microbacia urbana na área no Campus da Universidade Federal de São Carlos, na sub-bacia do Rio do Monjolinho, no município de São Carlos/SP. Avaliaram-se os aspectos hidrológicos, urbanísticos e ambientais como forma de comparar três cenários: pré-desenvolvimento, desenvolvimento convencional existente e desenvolvimento de baixo impacto (LID). Selecionaram-se parâmetros que permitiram avaliar os cenários propostos. Os resultados demonstram um ganho paisagístico e estético no projeto de desenvolvimento de baixo impacto; com a criação de 25% de área de cobertura vegetal; com o aumento de áreas permeáveis pela redução de 17% das áreas impermeáveis (vias, estacionamentos e passeios) em relação à urbanização convencional. Quanto aos aspectos hidrológicos, consegue-se uma redução de 21% da vazão de pico, e 26,9% do volume de pós-desenvolvimento em relação ao convencional, alcançado com o uso de técnicas de LID, sem o benefício do uso de práticas de gerenciamento integradas (IMP`s). Com o uso de IMP`s, a infiltração das águas precipitadas mantém as condições mais próximas possíveis das condições naturais.
