Representation is a way of symbolizing the world through language (HALLIDAY, 2014), and the literary text is a particular case, because a verbal sign can constitute more than one meaning, so that there are first and second order meanings (HASAN, 1989). Therefore, this paper analyses the tale Perdoando Deus (LISPECTOR, 2016) under the systemic-functional perspective and tries to answer the following questions: what representations does the narrator construct for God and for herself and how do these representations relate? Through qualitative analysis, the results showed that the representations made by Lispector have changed throughout the text as a result caused by an appearance of a dead animal. At this epiphanic moment, the narrator's perception of God and the world changes, and she perceives in herself a bad side too, which she did not want to come across.
