The present review summarizes the research work about different flame retardants used for polyurethane foam along with NBC (National Building Codes) and standards. With growing market of polyurethane foam, properties such as flame spread index, smoke release, and nature of fumes generated during and after catching the fire is of great importance and other properties, i.e., compression strength, tensile strength, hardness, elongation at break, etc. These will differ as type and loading of flame retardants used during formulation will vary.
