Recent studies have shown harmful effects of soil compaction in no-tillage system (NTS), but there are indications that soil structure improves with time of NTS adoption. We formulated the hypothesis that topsoils of NTS initially have worse soil physical conditions than those under conventional systems, but these conditions gradually improve with time also down to deeper depth, even when the soil is wheeled by farm machinery. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of a long-term no-tillage system and machine traffic on soil mechanical and hydraulic properties. The treatments and soil conditions consisted of five periods since the last conventional tillage (or age of NTS) in a Hapludox: 0.2, 1.5, 3.5, 5 and 14 years, with and without traffic; named recent tillage, and initial, intermediate, transition and stabilized NTS phases. Soil samples were collected from soil layers 0-7, 7-14 and 14-21 cm depth to determine soil porosity, precompression stress, compressibility coefficient, saturated hydraulic conductivity, air permeability, water retention curve, bulk density and organic carbon. Conventional tillage of soil previously under notillage significantly affected soil capacity properties, resulting in high macroporosity and deformation susceptibility, low bulk density and precompression stress. Intensity properties were affected initially by an increased soil pore obstruction, negatively affecting air permeability and saturated hydraulic conductivity, from 0 to 21 cm soil depth. However, after five years of no-tillage there was an increase in microporosity and, although small, in soil organic carbon, especially in the 0-7 cm soil layer; thus, soil water retention and soil intensity properties (like soil water and air permeability) were also improved, regardless of farm machinery traffic. Over time, soil reconsolidation occurred, which resulted in reduction of the compressibility coefficient and degree of compactness, mainly in the upper layers (0-7 and 7-14 cm). However, in the deepest layer with the least disturbance, the degree-of-compactness and bulk density increased. The evolution of physical properties and processes (from recent tillage to stabilized NTS phase) for no-tilled soil is proposed for controlled and uncontrolled traffic systems as a framework based on field data for capacity and intensity soil properties. The process of creating aggregates is represented, at first, by an increased number of contact points before they are re-loosened and strengthened at the same time by a rearrangement of particles, reducing aggregate bulk density but increasing soil strength at the same time. Resumo -O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a duração dos efeitos da escarificação em Latossolo Vermelho argiloso, pelo estudo da relação entre solo e haste sulcadora de semeadora. Os tratamentos foram: solo sob semeadura direta há 13 anos; solo escarificado há quatro anos (2001); solo escarificado há dois anos (2003); e solo escarificado há seis meses (2005), todos com ou sem tráfego de máquinas agrícolas. Dados de esforço vertical, momento associado à haste sulcadora, área de solo efetivamente mobilizada, resistência específica operacional, macroporosidade, microporosidade, porosidade total e densidade do solo foram coletados, e o esforço de tração na haste sulcadora foi calculado. A demanda de esforços aumentou com o incremento no decurso do tempo de execução da escarificação, e o solo escarificado há seis meses apresentou a menor demanda. O solo escarificado há quatro anos apresentou comportamento similar ao solo sob semeadura direta, e ofereceu a menor área mobilizada e a maior resistência operacional. Nos parâmetros físicos, diferenças foram observadas apenas na camada 0-0,10 m, onde o solo recém escarificado apresentou a maior macroporosidade, e menor microporosidade e densidade do solo. Soil and planter shank relation in an Oxisol chiseled at different timesAbstract -The objective of this study was to evaluate the chiseling effect duration in an Oxisol, based on the study of soil and planter shank relation. The treatments were: no-till for 13 years; four years since chiseling (2001); two years since chiseling (2002); and six months since chiseling (2005), where all treatments were submitted or not to traffic with agricultural machinery. Data about vertical force and moment associated to: shank, soil mobilized area, specific operational resistance, macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity and soil density, were collected, and draught on shank was calculated. Increasing of time since chiseling required increasing of the forces, and six months since chiseling showed the smallest demand. Four years since chiseling had similar behavior to the no-till treatment, resulting in the smallest soil mobilized area and the greatest operational resistance. Physical property differences occurred only in layer 0-0.10 m, and recent chiseling showed the greatest soil macroporosity, and the smallest soil microporosity and bulk density. A compactação na soleira de implementos de mobilização de solo é passível de ocorrência em determinadas condições do solo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se há compactação abaixo da profundidade de trabalho de um subsolador e verificar o efeito deste implemento em solo com níveis diferenciados de compactação. Os tratamentos em estudo foram semeadura direta há 13 anos e semeadura direta com compactação adicional. Coletaram-se dados de esforço horizontal (F H), esforço de tração, (F T) esforço vertical (F V) e o momento associado (M O) à haste subsoladora, resistência específica operacional, área mobilizada, área de elevação, empolamento e resistência mecânica do solo à penetração, bem como parâmetros de descrição física do solo. A compactação adicional gerou um aumento de 18,9% no F H e no F T. A maior influência da compactação adicional foi no F V, onde gerou um incremento de 78,2% demonstrando que a ação da pressão da máquina é mais expressiva na direção vertical. A semeadura direta ofereceu a menor demanda de tração por área de solo mobilizada que o solo que sofreu compactação adicional. Ao invés de ocorrer compactação abaixo da camada escarificada, houve mobilização do solo pela ponteira do subsolador resultando em menor resistência mecânica à penetração dessa camada de solo.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da compactação nos atributos físico-hídricos do solo e na demanda energética da haste escarificadora, além de avaliar as propriedades físico-hídricas abaixo da profundidade de trabalho da haste. O trabalho foi conduzido em Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo de textura francoarenosa, com os seguintes tratamentos: plantio direto por 13 anos; plantio direto por 13 anos em solo escarificado; plantio direto em solo com compactação adicional; e plantio direto em solo com compactação adicional escarificado. A compactação, ao longo da profundidade escarificada, foi verificada por meio dos dados de esforço de tração associados à haste escarificadora, obtidos com auxílio de um anel octogonal ligado a um módulo de aquisição de dados. Foram determinados densidade, porosidade total, macroporosidade, microporosidade, condutividade hidráulica saturada e resistência mecânica do solo à penetração. A compactação elevou a densidade e a resistência mecânica à penetração do solo, reduziu a porosidade total e a macroporosidade, porém sem causar efeitos significativos na microporosidade. A compactação aumentou a demanda energética da haste escarificadora em 21,64%, o que elevou os valores médios de esforço de tração de 5,33 para 6,35 kN. Soil physicohydric properties and chisel energy demand in a compacted AlfisolAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the soil compaction effect on its physicohydric properties and on chisel energy demand, as well as to quantify the behavior of these properties below the chisel working depth. The experiment was carried out in a sandy loam Alfisol, with the following treatments: no-tillage for 13 years; no-tillage for 13 years and chiseling; no-tillage with additional compaction; and no-tillage with additional compaction and chiseling. Compaction along the chiseling depth was verified through data of traction effort associated to the chisel, obtained with the aid of an octagonal ring linked to a data acquisition module. Soil bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, hydraulic conductivity and soil resistance to mechanical penetration were also determined. Soil compaction increased both soil bulk density and resistance to mechanical penetration, reducing the total porosity and the macroporosity, without causing significant effects in microporosity. The compaction increased chisel energy demand in 21.64%, increasing the mean value of traction effort from 5.33 kN to 6.35 kN. Soil chiseling did not increase soil compaction status below the chisel working depth in the sandy loam Alfisol.

This article aims to develop a precision methodology, to evaluate the work of a helical doser from a seed planter. The experiment was carried out in two conditions, a bench in laboratory, and, in a seed planter in the field, comparing the proposed evaluation methodology in the laboratory, linear methodology (LM), against the ISO 5690/2 (1984) method. In the laboratory's test, it was tested: 0°, +11° and -11° slope of doser. In LM, it was used a metal gutter with 125 polyethylene collectors, both placed next to the other. In the field, it was used only LM, and for such two doses were tested, 250 and 440kg ha -1 . The variation coefficient (VC) in the LM, the 0º condition performed with the best dosage, varying from 10.15% to 13.76%, against 13.95% to 17.84% in the + 11° slope and 11.86% to 13.79% in the -11º. The VC compared in ISO 5690/2 method shows a very different Rosa et al.; JEAI, 31(5): 1-7, 2019; Article no.JEAI.46242 2 result, indicating variations from 0.7 to 2.3%, which is 88% smaller than LM. In field, the VC increased to 25.70% to 40.96%. Comparing the VC of ISO 5690/2 with the field test, the differences are even bigger, 2.3% compared to 40.96%. The LM presents concise data to clearly observe variations in the working conditions of the fertilizer helical doser. Method Article

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da intensidade de tráfego e do sistema de manejo na demandade tração de umahaste sulcadora deadubo,e naspropriedadesfísicas de umArgissoloVermelho-Amarelo. Os tratamentos foram: semeadura direta com tráfego natural, semeadura direta com tráfego adicional de intensidade de 24,79 Mg km ha-1, semeadura direta com tráfego adicional de intensidade de 49,59 Mg km ha-1, cultivo mínimo e cultivo mínimo em solo compactado com tráfego de 24,67 Mg km ha-1. Foram coletados dados de: porosidade total; densidade do solo; resistência mecânica do solo à penetração; e de esforço horizontal, vertical e de tração da haste sulcadora de adubo da semeadora. A subsolagem do cultivo mínimo, utilizada como técnica isolada, não reduziu os efeitos da compactação ocasionados pela intensidade de tráfego de 24,67 Mg km ha-1. O tráfego afeta a estrutura do solo, sem alterar, porém, a demanda de tração. A mudança da intensidade de tráfego, de 24,79 para 49,59 Mg km ha-1, não ocasionou maiores alterações nas propriedades avaliadas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects sowing systems and fertilizer application systems on the incidence of weeds and on yield components in soybean crops. Two experiments were conducted in soils with different fertility levels. An experimental design in split-plot was used; the plots consisted of four sowing systems: crossed sowing (0.45×0.45 m), and spacings between rows of 0.35 m, 0.175 m, and 0.45 m; and the subplots consisted of fertilizer application systems: application in the sowing row, broadcast fertilizer application at sowing, and no fertilizer application. The variables evaluated were: grain yield, 1000-grain weight, and weed incidence at 30 and 50 days after sowing (DAS). The weed incidence at 30 DAS was lower when using spacing between rows of 0.45 m, which was correlated with the lower turning of the soil surface layer. The plant spacing between rows of 0.175 m resulted in a lower competition with weeds at 50 DAS and in a higher shading, generating higher grain yields. The fertilizer application in the sowing row resulted in a higher grain yield and 1000-grain weight. The sowing system affects the weed population dynamics, which directly affects the grain yield of soybean crops.
