By removing cost, time, transportation, and bureaucratic barriers, the program was able to reach more children than fixed-site clinics. The program was a merging of private and public health dentistries. This model can be useful to other communities in light of the unmet need for dental care and tighter federal, state, and local government budgets.
Because chronic amphetamine administration to rats has been reported to decrease striatal GABA concentrations, we investigated the effects of similar pretreatments to those used in the present paper on high and low affinity GABA binding sites in striatum according to the method of Skerritt et al. (1981). Using GABA concentrations of 28.8 and 299 nM, the binding (pmol/mg protein) in vehicle-pretreated animals was 0.678 + 0.040 and 1.60 + 0.17 respectively, and in d-amphetamine pretreated animals, 0.656 _+ 0.061 and 1.76 + 0.19 respectively. Thus, chronic d-amphetamine pretreatment of rats did not change significantly the number of high and low affinity GABA binding sites in the striatum, and such changes therefore are also unlikely to underlie the behavioural alteration reported in this communication.
Q-TECHNIQUE, designed for the study of the traits or characteristics of individual cases, has been used increasingly since its development by Stephenson. (7) For many years sociologists and clinical psychologists have been concerned with the description of single cases. More recently, social psychologists, students of education, and others have increased their use of exploratory studies involving one or a few subj ects, seeking in this way to find a basis for the framing of hypotheses to be verified in investigations where generalizations are drawn from a sample to a population. Q-technique has been one tool seized upon for use in these exploratory investigations. Since these investigators are frequently concerned with the study of groups and social institutions, as well as with individuals, the heuristic value of Q-technique would seem to depend in part on the extent to which it may be used in the study of single groups or institutions as well as in the study of an individual person. It is the purpose of this paper to suggest certain modifications of Q-technique designed to increase its applicability to the study of group phenomena.Q-Methodology and Q-Technique According to Stephenson, Q-technique is a specific implementation of a more general methodology. He suggests that this methodology is appropriate for the measurement of the traits of a single case (person, group, or institution), and that it permits the discovery and description of uniformities or regularities in the relationships
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
