Departures from ideal demagnetization characteristics of bonded barium ferrite magnets may result from incomplete alignment of the ferrite platelets or from physical damage to the crystals induced by stresses during the production process. It is desirable to separate these two effects. Vibrating sample magnetometer measurements were made in three orthogonal directions on cubes cut from bonded magnet specimens. From these results parameters characterizing the platelet orientation distribution function were obtained. It was then possible to estimate the magnetic properties of ideally aligned crystals. Some of the factors influencing the degree of alignment are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
