The biggest advantage of Additive Manufacturing is the individualization of products. Mass Customization is well known as a promising future application. The use of Additive Manufacturing for assembly groups is mostly not reasonable, however combining it with conventional manufacturing processes can lead to new opportunities.This paper works out concepts to join, by using similar material combinations, an injection molded part with an additive deposited geometry by the Fused-Deposition-Modeling (FDM) process. Therefore, two of the main industrially used polymers, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polypropylene (PP), are selected for further study. In particular, this investigation focuses on the procedural potentials and surface preparation of the injection molded part. By the variation of adhesive bonding, the fusion of similar materials can be identified and tested in several series of testing.First in general a direct joining function by the FLM process will be tested. After proving this hypothesis, the results will be summarised in a recommendation of joining similar materials, which are manufactured in different ways.
Gamification is an emerging approach to designing motivational strategies for many different applications. To maximize their efficiency, gamification strategies need an in-depth analysis of the users' behavior and appropriate gamification mechanics for implementation. Hence, gamification designs include a deep understanding of human interaction with the product and different motivational aspects during usage. This advantage offers product development opportunities to design more customer-oriented products using gamification methods. This chapter introduces an improved product development process regarding the design-to-customer aspect within the phases of customer analysis, mechanic ideation, and feature design. Each phase includes the integration of specific methods taken from established gamification frameworks. The new process is evaluated with a project on developing gamification strategies for the German Corona-Warning-App.
is a modern method of motivational design. It aims to motivate people to perform Desired Actions in a specific context. The development of successful gamification strategies requires a consistent, systematic approach. This consists of context and user analysis, technology ideation, and mechanics design. Ultimately, in the practical application, the so-called testing, it must be examined what influence the gamification strategies actually have in order to make eventual adjustments before the implementation takes place in the target context. A prior, objective evaluation possibility does not exist and is therefore often limited to the empirical experience of gamification designers. The balancing of video games can be tested with digital simulation tools (e.g. machinations.io), which show the described relationships in flow charts. This research work shows that gamification strategies for products can be mapped and evaluated with the help of game balancing simulation tools to make better statements about the probability of success. Conclusions and requirements for the general simulation of gamification strategies with game balancing tools are drawn from an exemplary application. A structured process with instructions for the implementation of gamification strategies in game-balance simulation tools helps gamification developers in practical applications.
Agile Methoden sind in der industriellen Anwendung Stand der Technik, wobei Scrum das am häufigsten verwendete Prozess-Framework zur effektiven Entwicklung komplexer Produkte ist. Entworfen wurde Scrum von Ken Schwaber und Jeff Sutherland, die ebenfalls 2001 das agile Manifest mitentwickelten, welches die vier Werte und zwölf Prinzipien für die Arbeit mit agilen Methoden definiert. Scrum zeichnet sich unter anderem durch flache Hierarchien aus. Hierdurch erhalten Mitarbeitende zunehmend Verantwortung und es entsteht aufgrund der vermehrt stattfindenden Kommunikation eine erhöhte Transparenz in allen Prozessen. Diese Eigenschaften bringen viele Vorteile aber auch Herausforderungen mit sich. Einerseits kann hohe Transparenz durch Offenlegung der Arbeit zu Unsicherheit seitens der Mitarbeitenden führen, andererseits sorgt die erhöhte Verantwortung auch für einen größeren Einfluss der einzelnen Team-Mitglieder auf das Ergebnis der Arbeitsprozesse. Die Motivation und Leistungsbereitschaft der Mitarbeitenden sind demzufolge ausschlaggebend für die erfolgreiche Produktentwicklung mit Scrum. Gamification ist ein neuer, vielversprechender Ansatz zur Steigerung der Motivation und wird dabei definiert als „die Verwendung von Spiel-Designelementen in Nicht-Spielkontexten“. Die dieser Veröffentlichung zugrundeliegende Forschung bildet die Grundlage zur Entwicklung von dedizierten Gamification-Strategien mit dem Ziel der Optimierung von Motivation und folglich der Leistung der Mitarbeitenden im Scrum-Entwicklungsprozess.
