El Síndrome de Alienación Parental (SAP) es un trastorno que se presenta particularmente en el contexto de disputas por la custodia de los hijos, donde la principal manifestación es la campaña de denigración del niño contra el padre. En ese sentido, el objetivo de la presente investigación fue analizar la aplicación del SAP en los procesos de tenencia de menores en los Juzgados Especializados en Familia de Tarapoto. Para ello, realizamos una investigación tipo básica, diseño no experimental, nivel descriptivo simple; la población estuvo constituida por 28 expedientes judiciales por tenencia de menores tramitados ante los Juzgados Especializados de Familia de Tarapoto en los periodos 2017-2018, los cuales evaluamos y analizamos a través de una guía documental. Los resultados evidenciaron el análisis de los estadísticos descriptivos y las inferencias teóricas sobre la aplicación, características jurídicas y sociales, y fundamentos de las sentencias de los procesos de tenencia de menores por el SAP. Concluyendo que la aplicación del SAP en los procesos de tenencia de menores en los Juzgados Especializados de Familia de Tarapoto, fue deficiente al constatarse que los elementos de los indicadores estudiados no fueron determinantes para otorgar o no la tenencia del menor al progenitor alienado.
