Acute performance of jump squat and ballistic bench press lead to a significant increase of IOP, and 5 min of rest are enough to recover baseline IOP values. There is a strong linear association between the increase in load and the IOP rise for both exercises, and bench press execution produces a significantly higher IOP increase when compared with the jump squat for the same relative loads.
These data indicate that IOP increases as a consequence of performing strength exercises, being the increment accentuated with the increase of the load and in the bench press compared to the jump squat exercise. Of special importance would be that the IOP responses were significantly reduced in high-fit individuals. These findings should be addressed in glaucoma patients.
Summauy.-The purpose of this study was to analyze the ball possessions of winning and losing basketball teams in formative years (16 years and under). The sample was 3,897 ball possessions from 24 games of the boys' 16-and under finals of the Andalusion Championship, Spain. The variables studied were game outcome, participation, and the initiation and end of each ball possession. Winning teams used more fast breaks and fewer set offenses in their ball possessions. Winning teams had shorter ball possessions and more passes and participating players. Dynamic game styles are necessary in youth basketball, focusing on continuously off-balancing the opponent through fast breaks and a high number of passes in set offenses.
The 2001 anthrax events have vividly illustrated that terrorism involving the release of a biological agent is a major public health emergency requiring an immediate and well-coordinated response. If healthcare professionals and emergency responders are to be prepared to manage such attacks, unprecedented cooperative efforts at the national, state, and local levels are necessary. To aid such efforts, advanced practice public health nurses (PHNs) must exercise their ability to collaborate with a variety of disciplines and communities. Using the Los Angeles County Public Health Nursing Practice Model, advanced practice PHNs can be trained to deal effectively with acts of bioterrorism. This model defines the practice of public health nursing as working on a population-based level to create conditions under which healthy people can live within healthy communities. This article will discuss the threat of bioterrorism and describe how the Public Health Nursing Practice Model can be applied to assist advanced practice PHNs in the development of a public health plan for preparedness and response to bioterrorism. Six specific interventions that enable advanced practice PHNs to affect populations at the community and systems level will be discussed along with the implications of bioterrorism for advanced practice public health nursing.
We conclude that (1) IOP is sensitive to cycling resistance in all-out sprints, with a lowering effect on the lightest resistance and an increasing effect with medium and heavy resistances, (2) high fitness level is beneficial to avoid IOP fluctuations during sprints, and (3) these changes are comparable when measured on 2 different days under the same experimental conditions. A progressive involvement in physical activity may be desirable to avoid IOP peaks during highly demanding physical effort. Future studies are needed to clarify the consequences of exercise in glaucoma patients.
We aimed to review and organize current literature about basketball collective behaviour assessment to categorize the most common research topics, main findings and shortcomings of the analysis made. Literature was sought via an electronic search of three databases: Scopus, Web of Science, and SportDiscus. Systematic review principles were used to identify and select potential eligible studies according to defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. In total, 322 studies were identified in the original database search, including 45 after the screening process. Then, articles were classified regarding topic and tactical factors explored (game context, game phase and players' role, and game condition). Current findings contribute to a better understanding of tactical assessment and game structure in basketball. The set of results extracted and discussed provide accurate information about the state of art in basketball collective behaviour assessment. We detected a lack of studies exploring tactical behaviour from a complex, dynamic, and holistic point of view, as well as an absence of longitudinal designs. Besides, reports about the influences of game context in basketball tactical performance are sparse. Information reported might result of great interest for coaches and staff, contributing to better characterize match performance in basketball and subsequent development of tactical training enhancement programs. Additionally, the summary and classification provided may serve as a useful guide to future research in basketball.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
