O Delta do Rio Jacuí é impactado por atividades industriais, urbanas e agrícolas. Neste contexto, o objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a presença de metais e a citogenotoxicidade da água em dois pontos do Delta do Jacuí. Amostras de água foram coletadas, em dois períodos diferentes, em dois pontos localizados na Ilha do Pavão. Os metais analisados foram alumínio, cádmio, chumbo, cobre, cromo total, manganês, níquel e zinco. A citogenotoxicidade foi avaliada em células de raízes de Allium cepa, após exposição dos bulbos às amostras de água e ao controle negativo, por 48h. Os metais detectados foram alumínio e cádmio em concentrações acima do limite e zinco em acordo com a legislação. Índice mitótico e frequência de micronúcleos nas células de cebola não apresentaram diferenças significativas entre os tratamentos. Foi observado aumento significativo na frequência de anormalidades cromossômicas nas cebolas expostas a uma das amostras de água. Os resultados sugerem contaminação permanente da água por alumínio, variação temporal para cádmio e variação espacial para zinco, bem como variação espaço-temporal na contaminação genotóxica da água do Delta do Jacuí na região da Ilha do Pavão.
