The propagation of short life time particles with consequently broad mass width are discussed in the context of transport descriptions. In the first part some known properties of finite life time particles such as resonances are reviewed and discussed at the example of the ρ-meson. Grave deficiencies in some of the transport treatment of broad resonances are disclosed and quantified. The second part addresses the derivation of transport equations which permit to account for the damping width of the particles. Baym's Φ-derivable method is used to derive a self-consistent and conserving scheme, which fulfils detailed balance relations even in the case of particles with broad mass distributions. For this scheme a conserved energy-momentum tensor can be constructed. Furthermore, a kinetic entropy can be derived which besides the standard quasi-particle part also includes contributions from fluctuations. * E is the relative c.m. energy and correspondingly the momentum in A vanishes; κ = 1 for non-rel. particles; κ = 2 for relativistic bosons, where Γ(E)/2E equals the energy dependent decay width and E 2 R (E) = m 2 R + p 2 + Re Σ(p).
The Heidelberg Ion Therapy Facility (HIT) is the first dedicated proton and carbon therapy facility in Europe. It uses full three dimensional intensity controlled raster scanning (3D-scanning) as basic treatment technique. Commissioning of the accelerator with beam was successfully finished for three fixed beam places in April 2008. Therefore, a library of 60000 combinations of beam properties (ion type, treatment place, energy, intensity, beam size) is now offered to the treatment technique teams preparing the treatment systems for the clinical use. The HIT facility also comprises a gantry with full scanning properties constituting the only carbon ion gantry worldwide. The gantry can be rotated by 360 degree, so that the beam may be aimed at the patient from arbitrary directions. Commissioning with beam of the gantry was started in January 2008 when the first beams were transported successfully into the treatment room. The talk will report on experiences and results of the commissioning of the accelerator sections. It puts special emphasis on the subject of preparing the enormous variety of beam properties in an efficient and reliable way.

Derjenige, der sich den Kommentar bereits 1961 fur etwa DM 22,angeschafft hat, kommt nun auf einen Gesamtpreis von DM 44,-und wird fur seinen raschen EntschluB quasi bestraft, denn er bekiime jetzt das Gesamtwerk fur DM 27,20.
