A geração renovável intermitente e centralizada, representada principalmente pelas fazendas eólicas e fotovoltaicas, tem apresentado percentuais de inserção significativos e crescentes nos sistemas de potência. Acompanhado dessa expansão, surgem problemas operacionais atrelados à resposta inercial e à margem de potência dos sistemas de potência. Nesse contexto, este trabalho avalia a capacidade da geração eólica e fotovoltaica em fornecer resposta inercial, operar com margem de potência e participar do controle da frequência, bem como o impacto dessa estratégia operacional sobre a frequência do sistema. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a estratégia operacional e de controle melhora significativamente a resposta da frequência do sistema ao mesmo tempo que minimiza o impacto das variações da velocidade de vento e irradiância solar na frequência.
O crescimento significativo da geração renovável, incluindo a geração fotovoltaica de grande porte, tem resultado em desafios técnicos para a operação dos sistemas elétricos de potência contemporâneos. A redução da inércia equivalente do sistema e a deterioração do desempenho do controle primário de frequência são exemplos de desafios operacionais impostos pela geração renovável. No contexto desses desafios, esse trabalho aborda o suporte à resposta inercial e ao controle de frequência por parte da geração fotovoltaica de grande porte. O estudo proposto avalia o impacto do ponto de operação dos módulos fotovoltaicos e da irradiância solar na dinâmica da unidade fotovoltaica. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a geração fotovoltaica de grande porte é capaz de fornecer um suporte muito efetivo à resposta inercial e ao controle de frequência dos sistemas de potência.
