O artigo demonstra que o Carnaval brasileiro tem origem no ocidentalismo caucasiano, ibérico e europeu. Iniciou com a violência dos ataques dos entrudos, que teve como ápice o ato de atirar sapatos nas visitas, fezes e urinas nos escravos que passavam. Isso era feito nos sobrados pelas moças recatadas das famílias patriarcais. Esse comportamento violento é amenizado com a influência francesa do confete e da serpentina, que foram trazidos pela missão francesa no início do século XIX. Isso foi amenizado, mas não superado, considerando que o sentido de ataque permaneceu no ato de atirar o confete e a serpentina nos dançantes de salão. A humanização no processo carnavalesco aconteceu somente com a pedagogia comunicacional do maracatu, oposta à violência caucasiana e considerada o mais antigo folguedo rural negro. Assim os negros incorporaram no Carnaval a corporalidade lúdico-músico-gregária de solidariedade comunal dos seus rituais.
