The Albany-Afro-Asian group has approached the study of atherosclero sis by focusing attention largely on the etiology of myocardial infarction which they believe is, in most instances, the result of an occlusive thrombus developing over a plaque (1, 2) in an artery extensively involved by athero sclerosis. Since thrombosis seldom occurs in the absence of a plaque, this (the local factor) would seem to be of prime importance.
