Chart review of population (9 to 80 years) neuropsychological test battery for ADHD diagnosis, questionnaires with multiple responders were evaluated in outpatient setting from 1989-2009. The focus was gender differences across age, diagnostic group (ADHD-Inattentive/ADHD plus), neuropsychological test performance, and reported sleep symptoms over the lifespan. Individuals were assigned to ADHD-I group or ADHD plus group (based upon secondary diagnosis of sleep, behavioral, emotional disturbance); ADHD not primary was excluded (brain insult, psychosis). Among these were 1,828 children (ages 9 to 14), adolescents (ages 15 to 17), and adults (ages 18 and above); 446 children (312 diagnosed ADHD-I), 218 adolescents (163 diagnosed ADHD-I), and 1,163 adults (877 ADHD-I). Sleep was problematic regardless of age, ADHD subtype, and gender. The type and number of sleep problems and fatigue were age dependent. ADHD subtype, gender, fatigue, age, and sleep (sleep onset, unrefreshing sleep, sleep maintenance) were significant variables affecting neuropsychological test performance (sequencing, cognitive flexibility, slow- and fast-paced input, divided attention, whole brain functioning). Findings suggest that ADHD involves numerous factors and symptoms beyond attention, such as sleep which interacts differently dependent upon age.

Background:Patients with Alzheimer's are sometimes taking medication that they do not need. Often times with Alzheimer's patients get frustrated, confused and agitatied. Feeling anxious and having unwated behaviors is not something enjoyable for a patient of the staff, these can be minimized by tailoring approaches/interventions to the patient. Methods:We created a Psychotropic Review Committee that meets once a month and reviews 5 patients medication/ behaviors. The patients behaviors are charted by time/date/behavior and who was working withthem/interviention taken to try and reduce the use of psychotropic medication. Can the behavior be avoided or changed with a non-pharmaceutical intervention. Results: This gives staff a clearer picture of a patients behavior, what approaches work and do not. How often they need to take medication/ what can be done in place. Conclusions: Patient's medications have been reduced without the upturn of behaviors. Gives clearer insight into who really needs medication and who may not need it anymore. Patients feel less agitation and more understood.Background:This is an ongoing study assessing the effectiveness of a cognitive therapy/training program (individually designed and integrated into a therapeutic setting) to remediate neuropsychological deficits (primarily memory) in a diagnosed dementia population at a private clinic. It is becoming well known that cognitive training has beneficial effects upon brain function. Diagnosis was pre-established at the physician office and/or made by the treating physician based upon neuropsychological assessment at this facility. Methods: Adults were referred for assessment of memory difficulties and diagnosed with dementia (age 51 to 90 years, n¼ 55). Education was high school to college; diagnosis of dementia by neuropsychological assessment ranged from mild to severe. Neuropsychological evaluation was administered prior to and following therapeutic intervention and results were compared. Neuropsychological assessments included; The Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), Memory Assessment System (MAS), Doors and People Test, and Brief Visual Motor Test Revised (BVMT-R). These measures were utilized to measure dementia and memory functioning pre and post treatment. On average, a total of three to six months elapsed between pre and post testing. Results: Areas of short-term, delayed, visual, and verbal memory, as well as a total dementia score improved following treatment. Paired samples t-tests revealed significant differences between pre and post treatment scores on the RBANS for delayed memory (p¼ 0.006) and total score (p¼ 0.007), as well as, on the MAS for short term memory (p¼ 0.049) and the BVMT-R initial
