Objetivo: Comparar a formatação de canais simulados por dois instrumentos rotatórios: ProTaper Next (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Suíça) e X-Gray após segundo uso. Materiais e Métodos: Dezesseis blocos de canais simulados foram divididos em dois grupos: PTN (ProTaper Next) e XG (X-Gray). Foi injetada tinta naquim nos canais simulados. Estes foram cobertos com papel laminado para que não haja influência na instrumentação. Antes da instrumentação dos canais radiculares, foi realizada a patência com uma lima K #10. A formatação dos canais foi realizada com motor endodôntico (Endopen-Schuster). No pré e pós-operatório foram analisadas imagens fotográficas para posterior sobreposição e análise em software de imagem no Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (Adobe Systema, San José, EUA). Resultados: Foram realizados os testes Shapiro-Wilk, cuja finalidade é verificar se os dados se apresentam em uma distribuição semelhante à normal (p > 0,05) ou não (p < 0,05). Nesse caso, verifica-se se essas variáveis estão normalmente distribuídas. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que ambos os sistemas rotatórios se mostraram eficientes na modelagem dos canais, podendo ser utilizados em canais curvos.
