Professor Dr. Universidade Federal do Acre Zenobio.ufac.@ufac.br RESUMO Este artigo aborda o relacionamento dos habitantes do estado do Acre e o meio ambiente. O seu objetivo foi gerar informações sobre a percepção dos residentes da cidade de Capixaba em relação ao meio ambiente urbano local. Para tal, foram coletados dados que caracterizam os moradores dessa cidade e a sua percepção sobre o meio ambiente. Esses dados foram colhidos em entrevistas com 130 habitantes de Capixaba. Dos resultados encontrados, pode-se inferir que: a) Os entrevistados têm uma percepção de meio ambiente como conhecimento empírico, o que implica na necessidade de ampliação desse conceito por parte da população local; b) Os maiores problemas e mais presentes vistos na cidade foram o desmatamentos e/ou queimadas seguidos pelo lixo nas ruas e pela falta de saneamento básico; c) A maioria dos indivíduos amostrados relaciona a Educação Ambiental com a preservação do Meio Ambiente, o que mostra conhecimento básico sobre a mesma; d) A maioria dos entrevistados se vê responsável pelos danos causados ao meio ambiente e se considera obrigado em buscar uma solução para minimizar os problemas ambientais locais; e) Fica evidente a necessidade da implantação de programas voltados para a Educação Ambiental, que envolva a população local, principalmente em relação às ações individuais que cada um tem para as questões ambientais e f) Para uma metade dos moradores amostrados, a arborização urbana proporciona ar fresco, enquanto que para outra metade dos entrevistados, a arborização urbana produz sombra e para um grupo menor que 10%, a arborização fornece apenas benefícios estéticos.
